Chances??

Hi everyone, I'm an Indian girl from the Midwest.
I applied early to Harvard... and got deferred.
So, I was wondering what my chances are at Yale, Princeton, Stanford, Columbia, MIT, Chicago, Dartmouth, Berkeley, Northwestern and Wash U.

Stats:

Any help would be much appreciated! Thanks!

I think you'll get into Chicago, Northwestern, and Wash U. I can't say much for Yale, Princeton, Berkeley, or Columbia.

I got into Chicago EA and was defered by MIT, and I applied to Stanford RA, but I don't think my chances are too high considering our school's val. was defered (but my tests are better). Also, a friend of mine got into Dartmouth early, and I would say you are more competive than him, so you have a good shot.

Me:

GPA 3.71/4.8 (34 of ~900) Public school in Chicago suburbs.
SAT: 750 CR, 800 Math, 710 Writing
ACT: 36
SAT 2: 800 Math II, 770 Physics, 720 or 730 US History (I forgot)
- I will have 7 APs when I graduate
- Math Team, Ice Hockey, Eagle Scout
- did research over the summer (no stipend; no publications)

desi06:

UCB: Match (out of state)

thanks! anyone else?

you have good chances at all of those schools

Is that American Indian or from the sub-continent?

subcontinent

My school does not offer AP courses or rank. Will it play a role in their admission decision? I've done some summer/fall courses at Harvard Extension and have a high GPA, so I'm hoping that will make up for it.

Sub-continent, eh?. Pity. If you were American Indian, you'd be in at all of those schools...

OK, realistically, I think your chances are excellent at Berkeley, Northwestern, and Wash U. Almost as good at U Chicago. At Yale, Princeton, Stanford, Columbia, MIT, and Dartmouth, it's anybody's guess. So many kids who apply to these schools have qualifications just like yours and so many are South Asians. My guess is you'll get into one of those schools and get wait listed at one, though which one it's impossible to say.
