Do I have a shot? I know my SATs aren’t as great as they could be, but I’d love to get into the business school at BC, but still be able to continue my work in the performing arts in my free time.

You definitely have a good shot. I wouldn’t worry about your SAT scores. They fall right in the SAT score range for BC for the middle 50%. Even though CSOM might be harder to get into compared to other departments, your grades and EC’s are good.

Dear money11 : Certainly, your class rank (Top 4%), board scores (2180), and AP Curriculum are all consistent with acceptance. The honor societies are expected with this type of academic performance and all are present. Your arts engagement is an interesting element of this profile that somewhat balances the book smart aspects with a social angle.

Now, what do we see as gaps in this profile to consider? It feels as if there should be a stronger leadership profile emerging here; what initiatives have you led that changed/impacted the school community? What positions have you held?

While “lots of community service” is a positive, exactly what impact did any of this have? Were you showing up after school in the Volunteer Club or really getting involved in the community?

Missing from your academic profile are the hard core sciences although that alone is not a showstopper.

Pay attention to your essay. Some profiles over past years that look exactly like yours have failed in the admissions chase because the individual could not express why they make Boston College a better, more interesting place for other admitted freshmen. Think about “Why BC?” and specifically what BC options with which you would engage - and improve.

Again, all of the pieces are here - just trying to provoke some addition introspection on your part in preparing your application.
