Extracurriculars:
4 year speech and debate team member, historian this year
Vice President of CSF
Webmaster of Key Club
Copy editor of school yearbook
Junior Volunteer Board of Directors member at my local hospital where I volunteer (250+ hrs in 2 years)

*Notes: I have two Cs--one from geometry freshman year first semester, and one from my second semester junior year in honors math analysis (clearly I am not a math person lol). Will this affect me? The one from geometry was a difficult adjustment to high school, and I had family problems at the end of my junior year which is why I got the C. I am taking six AP classes this year.

did you apply early or regular decision? your chances really depend on which route you’re applying. Vandy only looks at the M+CR subsections for the SAT, so you would have a 1320/1600. They usually accept people with 1400+

I’m just a senior applying now, so I can’t really give you a fair shot of your chances. But in response to your questions, I’d say that neither of those are hooks. CA is one of the most represented states at Vandy (if you google Vanderbilt profile, you can find exact numbers) and I kind of have the impression that Indians are an over-represented minority, like Asians. It might be different for Vandy, but i think Hispanics or African Americans tend to have the ethnicity hook.

The statistics Pancaked posted are the admitted students statistics. The ones I put a link to are the enrolled statistics. Generally enrolled statistics are lower because the best students admitted go to better schools. Not shocking. It happens everywhere. You’re test scores are low, but don’t let that discourage you. Admissions can be a toss-up.

^The admitted student statistics are what are important, just saying. You’re competing with the kids who get admitted, not just with the kids who enroll.

Pancaked is right. But, Vanderbilt understands that the best students who apply to Vanderbilt will matriculate to other top schools. Thus, do no be overly discourage be having low scores. I realize I am posting this after admissions decisions came out, but I don’t come here often… so sorry for my uselessness.
