I know, I know... far too many "chances" threads.. but I really want to go to Binghamton.

27 out of a class of 129
87.417 GPA unweighted / idk weighted
1860 SAT score, 26 ACT score
mid-year - 93/94/95 (could be higher.. I'm really not sure..), brings rank up to 18/17, average up to 88.2-88.5

My GPA is low because I had a year-round 70 average sophomore year. =\ I brought it back up, but it's still not where I want it..

What are the chances that I'll get in to Bing with my low GPA?
I'm taking the most challenging courses and have been since day one.

my stats were much higher and I was deferred.

I'm sorry -- I have friends who are in the same position.. but the fact that I'm so "average" is what caused me to apply regular decision. Two of my friends who got accepted EA had 1600/2400 SAT scores, one had a 93 cumulative.. the other an 89. Neither one goes to my school.

I mean, yeah, I know it's competitive, and a deferral/early rejection would've really hurt me.. so I didn't apply early. I'm not looking for anything besides people politely telling me whether or not I have a chance of getting in... I've already heard from my college advisor that it's 50/50, but I would just much rather prefer it if this thread were not comparing me to anyone else. You're great -- I'm assuming so, since pretty much everyone on CC besides me is.. so yeah, you don't need Binghamton.. I.. do, because I'm not that great.. they probably thought you were using it as a safety..

Or.. they probably want to know that you're not slacking now, since it's senior year.

Umm...I have a 27 ACT(30 English; 28 Math) and 3.8UWGPA and I am definitely not using Binghamton as a safety. I went up to Binghamton this summer and the head admissions officer couldn't even say that I had 50/50 shot -- Binghamton is much more selective than most people think

Applying Early Action would have been a major benefit because Binghamton has a very low yield, and by showing interest (by applying early) they are more likely to accept you because you are more likely to attend.

Nevertheless, I'm still confused as to why you didn't apply to Binghamton early?

I'm not saying that you can't get in (you have good grades and test scores) but you don't have anything impressive.

BTW, Binghamton won't reject a person because they thing he or she is using it as a SAT -- I know people with 1580's (Old SAT obviously) who have gotten in.

Are u in state or out of state. Im from Chicago and I got in with a 25 ACT and 1200/1600 sat. my uw is a 3.8 and w is 4.7. I applied early action to the busines school. I have been hearing however people not getting in from instate with higher scores then me, which is unfortunate. Whn i went to visit out of fifty kids i was the only out of stater and the guy told me that they were "activly recruiting" out of state kids haha. thats prolly y i got in.

I didn't apply early because there was a major flaw in my SAT score. My writing/CR scores were high enough.. but my math score was absurdly low.. so i decided to take the act.. and i'm still a retard...While I have a 29 english (31 eng/writing combined, 12 essay), I only have a 20 math.. (27 science, 28 reading). I just felt it gave them more reason to reject me if I had applied early.. so yeah..

I wanted to work on my grades before applying. I know it won't matter much, but at least I'll feel as if I've done my part (that AND it'll bring my rank up 10 spots). I didn't feel ready yet. :) Everything felt rushed.. I was going to, but backed out.

I'm from in-state.

Thanks gexxman..
And lulubelle, yeah.. I think it's harder to get in as an in-state student, since they're trying to make Bing very diverse (state-wise)..

P.S. I handed my application in in early December. ;)

They rarely reject people early -- they like looking at your senior grades before making a final decision. What school are you applying to? Some are more selective than others.

It's in the middle in terms of selectivity.

I'm not sure if you know this or not, but Binghamton will not be using the writing section on the NEW SAT - they will be using it for statistical purposes only.

I know, but it's not the only school I applied to -- haha, and certain did require the writing section.. so.. yeah.

I'm very scared because while a friend of mine (overall strong applicant w/ low SAT scores--valedictorian) got in, several others got deferred, with very similar stats -- they just didn't have the valedictorian standing.. :

Aaand.. does anyone know if college credits are easily transferable? I have a 3.77 college GPA (mostly As, a couple of A-s), but I would prefer for the credits to be transferred and not the grade... how exactly does Bing do it?

I'm not sure about the exact rules but I know that Binghamton as well as the other SUNYs are very easy-going when it comes to giving out college credit.

I recently took a college course and they mentioned the schools that accepted their credit and Bing was among them.

I think you're a borderline applicant. With so many people getting accepted/rejected with similar stats, or solid applicants getting acepted over extremely qualified ones, Bing's acceptance methods seem really tricky to estimate. Does your high school have a good relationship with Bing, like do they send a good number to them each year? That might help.

Yes, we do have a very strong relationship with Bing. It could be because my AP went there... but every single person from the top third (regardless of SAT/GPA) who has applied has gotten in, in years past. Every person in the top third who EA'd also got in this year. There are only about 8 students in the grade with cumulative 90s (the highest being a 93 or 94) unweighted, and in years past it has been the exact same way.. so not many students have met the "Bing averages".. Higher ranked (within the top third) students have lower SAT/ACT scores than students nearing the bottom of the top third.. soo.. yeahh...
