Chances?

Hey guys,

Could someone give me a rough idea with what they think will happen with my admission choice?

ACT: 32
Cal Poly GPA : 3.60
All AP/Honors classes taken since sophomore year in high school.
Intended Major: Aerospace Engineering

Hmm I’ve seen your stats, and I just want to say stats don’t really show the whole “you.” Don’t be so concerned about them. But just looking at your numbers, I think you will have a good chance of getting in. Aerospace Engineering is a difficult major, though. Start praying.

Hey modernrock2!

First of all, California State University Polytechnic School of San Luis Obispo has a great program in aerospace engineering!

Judging solely from your stats, this school is probably a low reach school for you. Your Cal Poly GPA looks good enough for the school and your ACT is above average for the school and is looking great!

But I agree with paulk224. Aerospace Engineering is a very difficult major to be accepted into. But I think with your statistics you’ll be very well off. Good luck and post on here what the result is! :-)

when did slo becom such a selective school. i personaly think modernock2 is getting in 100%.ez.

A decade ago

I’m a CCC transfer student wanting to get into their math major. I have gotten A’s in every math class at feather river college. My GPA is a 3.27 and is that good enough to get into their math department?

Your basic stats look fine for the school in general, but cannot be sure about AE. Be aware Cal Poly puts much more emphasis on HS GPA than on the SAT or ACT.

Cal Poly also takes into account the number of semesters in each academic core discipline. you’re probably fine there but can’t tell based on what you posted.

Cal Poly also give bonus points for working during the school year.

It has always been so in Engineering and Architecture. Business has become much more so over the past ten years. For each of those schools, it isn’t uncommon for an applicant to turn down a UC, even Berkeley or UCLA, for Cal Poly. Part of it is the environment and the generally positive feeling students have for the place, and part of it is the “learn by doing” teaching philosophy which is quite different from that at the UCs.

It isn’t so much a question of “is this student smart enough for a UC or Cal Poly?”, but more one of a student who gets into both may have a personal preference as I mentioned above. This makes Cal Poly very popular among HS applicants, which, given the fixed number of seats in a freshman class, makes the acceptance rate at or under 30%.

That’s really close. All the majors at SLO are impacted, but Aero is one of the most impacted majors of already impacted majors. LOL On the plus side, you’ve taken all AP/Honors since soph year. Did you include 9th grade? SLO is one of the only CSUs that considers it. Maybe that will boost your gpa a bit.
