Chances

Hey, I am a junior white male from a small town in Bedford Conty, PA. I hope know one knows where that is on here ;). I am interested in studying engineering at Bucknell in either the electrical or chemical field. Could anyone tell me the advantages of either for a career and at Bucknell.

Anyway just tell me if I have a realistic chance…

I had a 3.8 uw gpa in my soph year but my grades are almost perfect this year and I sould be able to pull very close to a 4.0.

I take all honors classes including calculus, chem 2, and physics. Our school is small and does not have AP however. It is competitive too in the fact that a 94% is the lowest A here.

I have not taken the SAT yet but I recieved a 1230 on the PSAT in my sophmore year but I have been practicing and I project I will in the 1300s.

I have a ton of ECs like
Starter on the Varsity Football Team 2 years
Letterman on the Track team 2 years
Gifted Program
Scholastic Quiz Team
NHS
FBLA
TSA (Our school, Chestnut Ridge, is very well known in both FBLA and TSA.)
I played tournament level paintball all over the country and I currently run a field.
I have also worked a couple part time jobs.

Just be honest, I do plan on visting soon and setting a interview and applying ED. I also right very well and scored a advanced on my PSSA (PA State Test) tests if that matters to Bucknell. If I cant get in here do you have any other reccomendations. I was also thinking abotu Pennstate or maybe RIT, but I visted RIT and that place might be the the most depressing place ont he planet but I do like microelectric engineering. I want to have fun at college too and not just sit in my dorm.

jpd, I don't feel qualified to specifically address your chances of admission, but can offer this bit of advice.

I see that you are fairly new to the CC site, or just a new poster) and suggest you take a look at the SAT/ACT discussion forum and spend some time prepping for the SAT. It makes a difference, and Xiggi is legendary on the CC site for his "SAT Prep strategy".

Getting that SAT above the 1350 ( Bucknell's average "admitted" applicant score- and probably lower than the average engineering admitted score) would strengthen your application immensely.

My friend got into Bucknell (the engineering program) with a lower SAT score then 1300. I think that it depends on how well rounded you are as a student, and it looks pretty good from your post....and it depends a lot on how big your pocketbook is (meaning, how much aid you will need)...see, my friend got accepted with a low SAT score but he did not need financial aid so I think that was also a big contributing factor...good luck, it is a great school
