Chances?

Hi, I'm a white male living in central New Jersey, and I was just wondering what my chances would be. My SAT score is 2250. 800 Writing, 770 Math, and 680 Verbal (P.S. will that 680 hurt me if I'm applying to the ivies or other schools that want to see at least 700? Should I take the SAT again to try to do better?) I haven't taken subject tests yet, but I'm expecting 750+ for math 2, biology M, and US history. Right now, I am taking 5 AP classes (Bio, Psych, Calc AB, Language, and US History), and next year, I will be taking 4 (Physics, Calc BC, Stats, and Chemistry). I have a 5.3 weighted GPA, and a perfect 4.0 unweighted, and I am also rank 1 in my class of 433.

As for my extracurriculars, I play varsity tennis, and I swim. I am in the math league, and I am involved in NHS, as well as the science, music, and world language honor societies. I play trumpet for the jazz band in my school, and I played Oboe for the woodwind choir, and I have been in my marching band for all 3 years. Also, I will be an Eagle Scout, by the time the applications are being sent out.

So what do you think my chances will be for HYP, as well as the lesser Ivies, especially Columbia, which is my first choice as of now. Also for Johns Hopkins, U of Chicago, and NYU.

Thanks in advance.

Harvard: Reach
Yale: Reach
Princeton: Reach
Columbia: Reach (ED improves your chances but still a reach)
JHU: High match
U Chicago: High match/Reach
NYU: Low match

your ec’s kinda suck. but! being an Eagle scout makes up for it. all the ivy’s are a reach just because all of the world’s top kids apply there. make sure u get that eagle project done. im working on it myself too

What’s your problem with Rutgers? Or is Rutgers your absolute safety?

Rutgers is my absolute safety. All my family pretty much has went there, and it is an okay school, but I’d rather, if I had the chance, go to one of the top universities.

What I’ve learned from applying, you don’t know until you’ve got the letter in your hand. If applying ED is an option for your family, definitely choose that method. Chicago has gotten insanely competitive, so don’t consider it a match automatically. NYU should be within your grasp with some good essays and recommendations. You’ve got good scores and ECs, and your academic career thus far is commendable. Pick some solid matches and safeties (Rutgers isn’t that bad!), and you’ll be set!
