chances

I just got my SAT scores so I’m reposting my chances… I’m a junior at a competitive Canadian prep school (American citizen). This is my first year here, I attended a decent American public school for my first two years.

GPA: I had about a 98 average at my old school; here I have about a 90… they have a conversion chart that puts this at about 97 at an American HS. My school does not rank, but I would be in the top 10%.
SAT: 2120; 730 V, 720 W (10 essay), 670 M… will take SAT II’s.
AP: My school does not offer many AP courses due to the strength of its general curriculum; I am self- studying for AP U.S. history and will take 3 or 4 AP classes next year.

Other stuff: 1) Debate- I am going to the Canadian national championships this weekend. If I do well, I will go on to the world championships
2) Hockey- I am a member of the first team here and I have devoted a fair amount of my time throughout HS to hockey.
3) Other ECs: - Running for school prefect next year
- Politics Club
- Jazz band
- Will intern in a law office and do some summer college stuff this summer

- Other stuff as well, but nothing too important… I can produce a laundry list if needed… but I prefer not to…

Chances, suggestions?

bump guys... i'm really interested in mcgill

OK, I know it's hard for Americans to understand, but ECs don't matter when applying to McGill. Only your grades/SAT scores (academic awards can be mentioned of course). You can compare the scores you got to the requirements given on the McGill website. From memory I think you have a chance, but do look it up (yeah, the website is really badly designed).

McGill from my son's experience does not consider ECS -it is all academics.
Your academics seem very sound to me-don't worry. Apply and stick to it.

i m sure you have a very high chance of getting in to mcgill

excellent... thanks everyone... yeah that no ECs thing is tough to get through my american mind

im confused-if you go to a canadian school, regardless of citizenship, why do you need SATs? can't you use the canadian system and just base it on marks...?

Yeah, the fact that McGill doesn't look at EC's is does not help me at all. The same thing goes for alumni relation; my dad went there, but nowhere in the application did it ask for family that attended McGill.

i just happened to have the SAT because i'm also applying to American schools
