Chances...

oh people, people. I have a story. My friend. 1400 on SAT's. Only took 2 APs as a junior and got 4's. Not first in his class, probably top 1/3 but that's it. Had around a B- in AP english all year. VPrez of student body and prefect were his only two big ECs. No national recognition and maybe 1 or 2 minor school awards. Accepted to Yale. Why? Personality. Drive. Ambition. Self-reliance. (Ah, Emerson and Thoreau!). Something that made him stand out. Took 3 jobs in the summer to be able to afford boarding school. Not studious and spent lots of time hanging out with people and trying new things. Probably never did homework. Maybe the teacher recs just said "he's brilliant and sees, unlike his friend (me), that killing oneself over an A simply is not worth it."

My apologies, this has nothing to do with offending your grades, it really doesn't, but I just wanted to post this somewhere on CC. Maybe stats shouldn't say what we are all captain of or head of, but what we have done in that position. Managed meetings and taken attendance, or inspired others to greatness and looked beyond our own advancements?

What does "bump" mean?

sounds like your friend was a good guy and probably had the personality needed for the big ivies...interesting story if nothing else, ill take it into consideration

btw, bump implies that you're posting on a thread in order to bump it back up to the top of the disscussion page to create interest, i think

Hmm I say you need stronger ECs more than a higher GPA. Also write killer essays

I’d say johns hopkins and CWRU - in
Others - reach

Match everything but Upenn and Princeton

Upenn 40%
Princeton 25%

AP test scores and Sat subject test scores are going to be key for you because of grade inflation…

Honestly, GPA doesn’t matter a whole bunch. It’s really the essay, the EC and some SAT(above a certain point it’s all the same)
A strong EC will get you in to any shool
