Chances?

I am a junior, planning on applying for summer term at FSU. I have a 23 ACT (I plan on getting a tutor and bringing that grade up), a 3.33 unweighted GPA, and a 3.73 weighted. I did poorly my sophomore year and that's the reason my GPA is so bad. I have taken AP US History and five dual enrollment classes. Next year I am doing early college at the community college and taking 15 credit hours.. I am also taking two classes online this summer.

I am currently doing volunteer work for bright futures and I swam and cheered for both JV and varsity.

Can anyone please tell me how good of a chance I have?

By doing poorly, what exactly do you mean? What were your grades?

One piece of advice: if you are applying as an incoming freshman, do not apply specifically for Summer. Always apply for Fall, as FSU will automatically consider your application for Summer if you would otherwise be rejected for Fall. It’s sort of like getting 2 chances in 1 at being admitted that way.

Well I got a D for my first semester of geometry… My teacher absolutely hated me. I retook the first semester online and got an A. I got a C for my first semester of US history and a C for my second semester of spanish.

But thank you for letting me know that. I had no idea they did that, I always thought it was either one or the other.

If you retook the class, I think that your lower grade gets forgiven. I would check into that one though, as it could make a huge difference. A D for a semester could jeopardize your chances, but if the D is forgiven it doesn’t make as much of a difference.

Aside from that, Cs generally aren’t horrible as long as they are more an anomaly than the norm. If it’s just a couple Cs sprinkled in among the vast majority of your grades being As and Bs, it shouldn’t hurt that bad.

If you bring your ACT score up a couple points, that will also help you a lot. A 23 ACT score is kinda low for FSU, although it’s by no means an admissions killer.

The grade did get forgived. It doesn’t affect my gpa but my guidance counselor said it would still be on my transcript. That’s why I’m really worried

My daughters friend was not admitted to FSU for this upcoming year. Her fsu GPA was around 3.5. Her SAT about average for FSU. She was told she didn’t get in due to the two Ds she had. Both were replaced with A’s by virtual school, but still on transcripts. That’s all I know!
I think FSU looks a lot at GPA and classes! My daughter got in for the fall. Her GPA was much stronger than her SAT scores. Good luck.

FSU’s two most important criteria from a freshman applicant is course rigor and GPA. Test scores come in a distant third (as you can have as many chances as you want to boost them, compared to the one chance to make your GPA) comparatively.

In the past, a single D for a semester has been sufficient for someone to get deferred or even outright rejected. That would explain why someone with two Ds were not accepted.

One D is problematic, two is probably unacceptable to FSU.

I got a D in a stupid class my freshmen year in high school but I was still in for the summer with a GPA close to yours, I got an 1850 on the SAT and I had solid EC’s. I felt like I was on the bubble as far as getting in or not and I’m glad I did! You’re probably around there too so much sure you write the best essay possible, you get your application in early, and you do the best you can in school.
