Chances!

Hello! I am a high school senior preparing to apply for college! I've been using CC as a resource for a long time, but have never actually made an account. This is my first post! I see that CC is a great website, though some of the student stats are quite intimidating! Nevertheless, I'd be a grateful guy if someone could chance me for MIT, UC Berkeley and Stanford!

(I live in Los Angeles and attend a public school, if any of that matters)

Grades: All As, have taken 13 APs including senior year APs
Class Rank: 4
SAT I Score: 2270 (760 math woops, 780 writing, 730 CR)
SAT II Scores: 800 Math II, 760 Bio E, 780 Spanish, planning on taking Chem
EC list!:
-Avid participant in the AMC math competitions
Qualified for AIME in 10th and 11th grade, qualified for USAJMO in 10th grade

-President of Salsa Club
Started dancing in 10th grade, loved it!
Choreographer for our dances at Talent Show and other school events
I attend salsa events around my neighborhood often
I was going to join an LA dance team last year (passed the auditions), but had to drop because it would have caused my schedule to collapse (everyone else on the team was at least 24 years old)

-Captain of the Science Bowl Team
Started in 9th grade
Captain in 11th and 12th grade
Filled in for coach last year, since our coach inexplicably disappeared and moved to Michigan

-Pianist
I've been playing for a looonng time
However, didn't really start playing well until a year and a half ago, when I switched to a new teacher, who promptly told me that I sucked.
Since then, I've been competing in competitions, to the point that I'll be performing at Carnegie in November.

-Cross Country, Varsity 10th-12th grade, Captain 12th grade. I like running, but I'm not that good at it.

-Scholastic Art and Writing Awards: Gold Medalist in 11th grade

-China California Heart Watch Internship
Along with several college interns, I helped run free clinics for rural Chinese farmers in the Yunnan province of China.
Admittedly, I could only go because my parents provided for the expenses.
However, it was very hard work! I logged around 80 hours a week of work.
Participated for 2 and a half weeks in the summers of both 2011 and 2013.

-COSMOS Summer Science Program participant during the summer of 2012.
UC Irvine Branch, Chemistry group.
Chosen as the student speaker for the closing ceremony.
Chosen as an alumnus representative to the 2013 COMOS Nobel Laureate dinner.

Again, a full and hearty thank-you!

You have a great chance at all of those! You’re pretty much guaranteed at Berkeley. But you never know for sure at top schools like MIT and Stanford. But you definitely have a good shot at getting in

Wow! Salsa club? Maybe you can teach me to dance if we both end up going to Berkeley!

Berkeley: Match
MIT: Uber High Reach (for everyone)
Stanford: High Reach (for everyone)

Heh for sure movieman! Salsa is amazing, and dance is awesome in general! Apparently there’s already a salsa club at almost all of the schools I’m applying to, so I’m really excited (assuming I get into at least one) !

scderek thanks! Yeah, MIT and Stanford are big mysteries, but hopefully they’ll notice me!

Self-bump, mainly because I’d like a response from a non- current high school student. Thanks for the encouragement movieman and scderek, but it appears all 3 of us are in the same, application-jitters boat!

Also, if I apply MIT EA, will that help my chances? I know acceptance rate is generally higher for EA schools, but I’ve also heard that that’s just because EA is filled with legacies and recruited athletes. Don’t know how true that is, though.

Stanford is a reach, but I wouldn’t say “high reach.”

Stanford: Reach
MIT: Reach
Berkeley: Match

you have lots of interesting things on your resume! Stanford is a reach for anyone but definitely try!

Sorry, last bump.
Will applying EA to MIT help me any?

^Yes

Anyway:
MIT–high reach
Stanford–mid reach
Berkeley–low reach / high match

More bumping because I’m truly despicable.
