I don't understand why people like this even wonder, JMU is not that difficult to get into. My best friends brother got in with a 3.3 GPA and an 1140 on his SAT. You are a shoe-in.

Well, I emailed the admissions dept. there and asked them questions about early admissions. They said they have early notification which they call honors something. They also said it was really difficult. What are my chances into that?

sunshinee, most public high schools are so-so. Only a few are worth noting. There's no way that any publication can accurately rank them, so I wouldn't worry about it. Anyway, it appears that you'd be a very competitive applicant for JMU. Try to maintain as close to a 4.0 as you can until you apply, and make sure to write good essays.

I tried looking for my school and I don't think it was on the list, but thanks for the advice.. I'll have about a 3.9 by first semester my senior year. Does JMU include 1st semester grades?

They will see your first semester grades, so don't slack off. Great grades your senior year could put you over the top, but bad grades could keep you out.

two years ago, a friend of mine had a 3.6, 1200 SAT, was a triathlete, nhs, newspaper editor in chief, ap's, etc... and was flat out rejected (and it was their first choice)

i wouldn't say "shoe-in" because you never really know, but i'd say your chances are very good

I wouldn't be worried. Your credentials are almost identical to mine (My SAT was a little higher but I had less extra-curriculars) and I got on early. Good luck!

Dont be so sure about that- continue to do well next year- my D is sophmore at JMU now- she was top 6% of public high class- instate- 1420 SAT lots of AP with 3.8GPA and waitlisted- but she did get in after her medling mom called admissions and they agreed there had to be an error! (althought I dont think she liked it that I called) Good luck! rising Junior now

Yes, I agree with jmuMOM. I had a 3.9 and all of my friends here had at least 3.6 at the lowest. I think you'll be fine.. but trust me, JMU has the weirdest admissions. Extra curriculars are a must. A couple people in my class got into W&M, but not JMU. It all really depends.

listen dude...you need to chill out and have a brew. I got into JMU with a 1900 on the SATs (1320) a couple of honors and APs a few extracurrics (hockey, crew) and no formal recomendations so don't worry about it.
