Thanks for the input

It will be interesting to see how your SAT's turn out with that PSAT but I think you have a good shot. What part of the country are you from btw?

I'm from the midwest

My daughter's guidance counselor was very discouraging today saying ND only takes the top 1 or 2 in the class. She is number 3 out of > 200. Her average is 99.5+ . She got 208 on the PSAT and 1380 on the SAT but was thrown by the essay and is better prepared for the April test. SHe is hoping to get into the summer program. It doesn't seem that the guidance counsellor was right based on what I read here.So I hope for both your sake she is wrong. Good luck and remember you will wind up whereever you are supposed to be.

Kr123- I got in EA as a ND Scholar and was not ranked 1st or 2nd...probably more like 8/80 unweighted, although we don't officially rank. My SAT was pretty high (2290) and I had taken about 10 AP classes, so I guess that made up for it. If she can get her SATs up and has been taking rigorous classes, she may still have a good shot at ND. 3/200 is excellent anyway.

The average rank for admitted students at ND is the top 6% so I wouldn't worry if she isn't in the top 1 or 2 but is 3rd; that is still very good and will not keep her out of ND.

My son was 3/125 and he got in (so did #2). I'd work on the SAT though. The essay is teachable.

I am between the 15%-20% of my class and I was accepted EA with a 2250. The only being top 1-2 is a bunch of bull. My brother was also accepted a few years ago and he was 5th or 6th in his class of about 150 students.

I have been amazed at how little my counselor knows about some of the top level colleges. She is used to kids going to U of I and other similar state schools. She assured me that I would get admission decisions (at the private schools) before March because "housing forms have to be returned by then or you won't get a dorm".

Many kids in my school have been accepted to ND without being 1 or 2.

You definitely don't need to be ranked 1 or 2. 9 people from my school got in EA.
