Chances

I think i can score around 2000 in SAT reasoning test and I have 3.95 unweighted GPA.What are my chances of getting very good financial aid that would ask me to pay not more than 5000$ per year.

It depends on whether you are eligible for need based aids and where you live (for commute).

I am from Nepal and more than that from a middle class family of Nepal. This,I think makes me eligible for Need based Scholarship.Could you also tell me what sort of college should I target ?

There are very few schools that offer need-blind aid to internationals. These are mainly the top schools (Harvard, Yale, Dartmouth, etc). However your stats will not be good enough for these top schools (particularly SAT score) needs to be close to 2300 to have a reasonable shot.

Sorry to disappoint you, but there is really little chance to find something that would meet your situation.

You would neet at SAT of 2300+ to be competitive at any of the “need blind” schools for internationals. Sorry.

There are 6 schools that are need blind for internationals: MIT, Harvard, Dartmouth, Princeton, Yale and Amherst.

All of these are top notch and very selective. An SAT score of 2000 is very low for these schools. To get in with a score like that you would need something else that is more than amazing. Something along the lines of world’s youngest astronaut or olympic champion. That might be an exaggeration but you get the point. A 2300 would place you in the 75th percentile of admitted people at any of these schools. The thing with us colleges is that a great SAT score cannot get you in by itself. You need something else to make you stand out. Do you think you can aim for 2200? Something that might be at your advantage is that you come from Nepal. I’m sure they don’t see that many of those in the admissions office so it could play to your advantage.

Good luck!
