<p>I'm a die-hard Brown and Columbia fan...do you think I have a shot? I know ACTs are kind of low but they are average for Brown and only one point below average for Columbia.</p>

<p>This is tough, because I’m not sure if a girl majoring in math counts as a hook, but if it did you have a good shot. But otherwise, consider that the average ACT score at Columbia includes recruited athletes and kids from less fortunate backgrounds who had circumstances that got them lower test scores. Columbia is not as heavy on test scores as some of the other schools, but they are still a bit of a reach. You should apply still, and if your essay is really good you still have a shot. </p>
