I am really interested in going here like Mount Holyoke, SLC, and KU are my top three schools to go to. I am a sophomore right now. I am very involved in my school like I sing in mass choir, I do my church youth group (I am Atheist), have over 200 hours of community service (hopefully over 400 by senior year), I am in Outreach (a service club), I recently won an award for showing Equality at my school, I am in the theatre community, I am on the varsity dance team, I do student council, I think I am pretty well liked, and I hopefully hope to have more on my resume by senior year. I want to go here but one problem is that I don’t take all honors classes and I only plan to take two years of a foreign language because I struggle in that class. Will that hurt my chances of getting in? I think my extra circulars could save me. Fingers crossed.
Oh I am also African American
I really don’t think it’ll hurt your chances at all! I’m a senior (i’m taking the IB program which is more rigorous than the US system, so our courses are equivalent to taking all honours courses) but I did get a D in my first transcript for senior year in math, a C in Spanish and the rest Bs and As. My extra curricular’s were extremely intense, and quite impressive as I was told in my interview. Your extra curricular’s sound great! As long as you right an incredibly articulate entrance essay & show that your ethos and value fit with the school’s you should be golden. Having an ethnicity that is underrepresented also helps
Sounds like you have a really strong case and your sophomore grades won’t count as much as your junior grades. You don’t have to take all honors classes, but I’d recommend pushing yourself a bit in the classes you like.
