Chances?

Here I am, a full year before I know my fate but I am absolutely panicking. My gpa is average at best but I think I have good SAT scores and ECs and I really don’t know how schools will balance everything out. I am a junior at a top public HS in NY and I have a few ideas on where I want to go; Miami (FL) is my dream school and they offer EA (51% acceptance) my #2 is George Washington in DC which you might think is way out of my league but they have an early acceptance rate of 66% and they offer interviews which I can really take advantage of, the only problem there is that they only offer ED, which is binding. I have a few others Im considering like UCF, UCONN, and some others. My safety is U of Arizona which I have double legacy at and its like 74% acceptance so if I don’t get in there, I don’t deserve to go to school.

Positives:
730 math 720 reading 700 writing for a 2150 total SAT (with room to still improve)

4 year baseball player (1 year captain)
1 year golf
4 year member of global awareness club (world/current event debates)

worked with kids after school (2 hours/week)
charity work after hurricane sandy

was invited to participate in a mock debate at the United Nations on the Lybia crisis but could not attend due to mid-terms

started and effectively ran a sports blog with friends

never been in any trouble (academic or otherwise)

6 total AP classes (euro, art history, stat, APES, Gov, Macro Econ)

at least 10 other honors classes

3 total recs (2 teacher, 1 guidance counsler)

1 year accelerated in science and math (math is mandatory at my HS, sci is select)

May still join another club next year

Negatives:

~3.0 UW GPA ~3.55 W GPA

my school doesn’t do class rank but our counselors say that that will not be counted against us

So there it is… let me have it. If you don’t think I can get in and there are other schools that may be a fit, please say so.

Arizona: Very High
UCONN: High
UCF: High
Miami: Med-High
GW: Medium

I’m not an expert but thats my best guess. Try to get those grades up and be thankful that your class isn’t ranked!
Use Parchment.com for admissions predictions

Do all you can to inch that GPA up.

Still, I think you get into University of Miami; not a slam dunk, but you have a good chance. Your SAT score is above their 75% line.
You will get in to UCF.
You will get into Arizona.
You will get into University of Connecticut.
GW is a little tougher but only because their acceptance rate is lower. Their stats to get in are comparable to Miami.

Don’t let that GPA fall below 3.0. Your SAT score is what is saving you here. Good luck.

You seem likely to get into most of those schools. If anything you should aim higher. As long as you have an upward trend with your GPA you should be fine.

Thanks! I’ve seen that I am above their 75% line but I’m not really sure what that means in the grand scheme of things. Obviously I know statistically it means that I am in the top 25% but again, I don’t know what that means in terms of admission. Is it out off all applicants? People who were admitted? I really have no idea.
All of this stuff is really scary so thanks for the help. :-/
