Chances?

Hi everyone, I’m a high senior and was wondering my chances for Stevens. I always doubt myself so I just wanted to see other people’s options. I also want to know if there is anything else anyone thinks I should do.

-GPA: 3.97/4 weighted ( A is a 5 in AP/honors, so its possible to have 4.1/4; don’t ask me I didn’t create this system :D)
-female, engineering undecided (leaning towards mechanical/electrical), from New Jersey
-5 APs: 1 junior year (APUSH), 4 senior year ( Chem, Physics, Italian, and Calc AB)
-I am a part of TV Society, Theatre club ( I’m a lighting tech), NHS, Italian Honors Society, Freshman leadership club, and Rock Climbing club.
-I worked over this summer as a paid intern
-30 ACT, took twice, 1st ACT- E29, M29, R32,S30, 2nd ACT E32,M27 R30,S33

Do you think that 27 in math on my second will really hurt. Should I not send the second one?
Thanks for the input!

I have a daughter who is a freshman at Stevens. Although I can’t tell you if Stevens will superscore your ACT (my D concentrated on the SAT) here is a link to something called the Common Data Set for Stevens. It is a profile of their admitted students from 2013-14, so you can look at their range of ACT scores. You’ll see that the middle 50% of Math ACT scores ranged from 27-32. This means that 50% of admitted students had ACT Math scores between 27-32. Link: http://www.collegedata.com/cs/data/colleg/college_pg02_tmpl.jhtml?schoolId=71

I do remember reading a letter my daughter forwarded me in September saying that all of Steven’s standardized test scores rose yet again for freshmen admitted in fall 2015. The 27-32 middle range score for ACT math may now be higher.

I’d say concentrate on getting a 700+ on the Math2 SAT subject test. And although it won’t help you with admissions, try to get 4s or 5s on your AP exams in May. Stevens is generous with AP and IB credits and you’ll save money.

Here is the link to Stevens Common Data Set 13-14 again. It was broken in my comments above: http://www.collegedata.com/cs/data/college/college_pg02_tmpl.jhtml?schoolId=71

I think that being female increases your chances. Engineering is the largest major, also good (vs computer science, for example). I don’t think it hurts to submit all scores here.

To boost your chances: apply during an early decision period. (I or II) They will give you an estimated financial award as long as you get your materials in on time. Early decision is not binding here until you submit your deposit by the deadline.

Per College Navigator (National Center for Education Statistics) the 25 percentile/75 percentile ACT score for Fall 2014 enrolled first-time students is:
Composite: 29/32
English: 27/34
Math: 28/33
Of the 1,367 female applicants, 53% were admitted.

Stevens is high on my D’s list too. Good luck & aloha!

My daughter is currently a sophomore - she was admitted with no AP classes. She had a solid A average in standard classes, and had some prior engineering coursework in high school. She also had some terrific engineering extra curriculars - and she plays a sport there (not at a high level though). She showed A LOT of interest - she applied early decision 1 and interviewed. She met the admissions counselor at her high school - she also attended the ECOS summer program the year before applying. Her ACT was in the 31 range I believe. To me it seems like you should be an easy in - but you never know what they are looking for.
