I applied early action, but I’m very conflicted about whether or not I think I can get in. I live in the area so i have a good amount of friends and acquaintances there, who all say my chances are fine. However, I feel like they have a pretty skewed perspective because they don’t see the students who DIDN’T get in, only those who did.
My grades aren’t exactly “georgetown caliber”, however, when I asked the admissions rep that came to my school she said that as long as I can prove that I am in fact a high performing student and explain any discrepancies in my grades, my GPA won’t rule me out. Not that my grades are awful, I just could have had more A’s and less B’s. I do have a lot that makes me stand out from the average student, as well as legacy and family history in the state department.

Essays:
pretty solid, worked my butt off editing and rewriting and stuff
i wrote a pretty powerful essay about my struggles with mental health, explaining why my sophomore- early junior year grades weren’t really what I would expect the average Georgetown student to have
my other essay was about my family’s foreign service background and how that influenced me to be interested in linguistics/learning foreign language, and how my grandmas social justice work in Africa inspired me to want to pursue Justice and Peace studies at Georgetown
short essay about my experience hosting a Korean exchange student, and participating in the exchange program which involved a lot of me speaking Korean and exploring DC and stuff
Hooks:
Legacy (my mom graduated from Georgetown Law), strong family ties to the State Department (grandpa was the first U.S. Ambassador to the Marshal Islands, as well as a representative in Vietnam during the war, Nigeria, Laos, and Botswana), 4 years of Korean (only person at my school to take it- it was through a special program that allows you to take classes at other schools), also I visit Georgetown on average like every other weekend (my boyfriend goes there) so i already have a really good sense of what I want to do there and I know that i would pick it as my first choice so I’m hoping that helps!
