Chances

Hello. I would really appreciate feedback on my son. He is a white male in a recognized public school in New York.
His unweighted GPA is a 3.83. His school does not weight GPAs nor does it rank. He has been a member of Signifer (honor society based on GPA) for 2 years (maximum # of years).

Here are his courses:

Science: Advanced Biology, Advanced Chemistry, Advanced Physics, AP Chemistry (my school has a restrictive science track)

Math: Senior Year-AB Calculus

English: Regular Every Year

French: 5 Years, Senior Year-AP French

Latin: 2 Years of an Advanced Level

Social Studies: 9th, 10th Grades-Regular (only level), 11th Grade-AP U.S. History, 12 Grade-AP Macroeconomics

Band: 9th Grade-Regular Band, 10th, 11th, and 12, Grades-Wind Ensemble (highest level band), 4 Years of Varsity Band (plays at football games)

Here are his standardized test scores:

Biology SAT II: 770

Math II SAT II: 760

U.S. History SAT II: 720

Old SAT: 750 CR, 730 Math, 730 Writing

Here are his extracurricular activities (including senior year):

4 Years of French Club (President Senior Year)

4 Years of Varsity Skiing (Captain Senior Year), All-League Sophomore Year

He has a great essay and fantastic recommendations.

Awards:

National French Exam: (9th Grade-Bronze, 10 Grade-Silver, 11th Grade-Bronze)

National Latin Exam: (10th Grade-Gold, 11th Grade-Silver)

He will applying to Middlebury early decision and financial aid is not a factor. Any feedback is appreciated.

I’d think he stands a good chance. As good a chance as anyone can stand when admit rates are 16%. Good luck!

I can definitely see how Middlebury would be a good fit with all his languages (and skiing!). He’s definitely in the running. Good luck to your son!!

Does being from up-state New York have any impact?

It probably doesn’t help. While recent classes have received the largest number of their applicants from California, Middlebury remains very popular among New Yorkers. At least he isn’t female.
