Reach (pie in the sky)- tell me if it is at all worth a try (I am listing a lot of Ivies because I haven't visited yet and I havent been able to get more than word of mouth descriptions of program strengths and atmosphere)

I am interested in majoring in English (especially rhetoric studies), French, International Studies, Comparative Literature
If you could give any guidance as to strong programs, I would really appreciate it.

Also for financial aid, my parents together make about 100k. In my state, especially in my county of Somerset, ranked the richest in the nation, that's middle class at the highest. My mom is a nurse and my dad is a (lietenant) prison guard, so I truly am from blue collar roots. Will colleges take that into account? I will be the first person from my dad's family to go to college (mom has a bs). I am white. I have two sisters, one who will enter college as a freshman when I am a jr, so we need money. I have thought of going to Rutgers (who would give me agood deal of money automatically froma state program to stop our so called brain drain) and transferring to a more expensive, and hopefully better, institutions. What do you think of this plan?
How much money can I reasonably expect and can you think of good, but less selective, places that may offer it to me?

Thanks for reading.

All the Ivies are big reaches. Your best shot at an Ivy is cornell but it's still a reach

Tufts--slight reach
Johns Hopkins--reach (I barely got in with about same stats)
Amherst--reach
Boston College--match

Realistic:
Coll of William and Mary--match
George Washington--match
Boston University--match
SUNY Binghamton--match

It's very hard to transfer into a top school from a lower ranked school.

i'm wondering why you make suny bighmaton a match- i think the avg sats are like a 1240. I'd ask the same questions for BU and GW.
thanks for the info about transfering.

How do you "barely get in" somewhere?

^If everyone else has higher stats.

Your M+CR: 1440
Boston Average: ~1350
George Washington Average: ~1300
SUNY Binghamton average: ~1250

Your above the average SAT score and have a decent GPA so it's pretty likely you will get in.

i just meant i would consider binghamton a safety, and possibly boston u(not to be confused with bc that has a 1370 avg)
thanks for your input
do you have thoughts on any other the other schools, especially the lacs

BC SAT average was well above the average last year (1371) and I saw several people with scores in teh 1400's get waitlisted or rejected. Looking at SAT ranges to evaluate an applicant's chances is futile.

sry but bump
