chances?

hey guys, i just applied ED II to wesleyan, and now i'm freaking out because all of a sudden it hit me just how much i love the school. i think it comes off in my application, and my interview went pretty well. i've also been on campus about 4 times since i lived there for 5 weeks a few summers ago. would yall mind looking at my stats and seeing if i have a decent shot? thanks so much!!

1460 SAT, 780 V, 680 M
SAT II: writing- 800, bio-700, world hist-680
weighted gpa-92, this year
one of top public schools in country in CT
AP exam grades: World- 5, U.S.- 4
Currently taking: AP Euro, AP Gov & Politics, AP Studio Art, AP English, Honors Advanced Functions (mix of calculus and pre-calc), Journalism III
weighted gpa this year: 96.4

ECs-- my ECs and recs are my hook-- i do much more than all of this but i have 1000s of hours of ECs, whcih is why my gpa is so low (i have so much involvement, but i love it). my essays are great (my common app has to do with my experience at wes 2 summers ago for an arts program)

-Editor-in-chief of school paper, was Features editor last year, went to prestigious summer journalism program at northwestern
-ART ECs, also ran and produced art gallery show to benefit children with special needs, attended selective art program at Wesleyan University
-staff of literary magazine
-piano, play at festivals at most advanced level
-varsity swim team- 4 years
-mock trial- defense lawyer, lead witness
-founded french club, and the biking club
-national charity league- involvement in many local organizations
-internship at local tv station and am co-producing a program with them

You're a very strong candidate. And you're right about your ECs. An Editor-in-Chief, actually any prestigious club presidency or varsity captaincy gets extra attention. EDII was designed for folks like you who may have had hopes for HYPMS,etc and are now in the market for a second, (i.e.. more realistic) "first choice."

thanks so much! i heard though that wes has a "weird" admissions process-- is there anything i can do to improve my chances? also my principal said he wanted to call the school... do you think they'd look favorably on this or would it just bug them

I don't think it's all that wierd. The only thing that might be different from, say, Harvard, is that the close decisions tend to be made by the whole cmte rather than by the Dean alone. To get a better picture of how admissions works at Wesleyan (and by extension, other elite colleges) read "The Gatekeepers" by NYTimes reporter, Jacques Steinberg; I believe it's paperback. On the issue of phone calls from priincipals, there probably is no one correct answer. You go to school in Connecticut? It can't be the first time they've ever had someone apply to Wesleyan; I'd leave it up to your principal's best judgment.

What about C?!..columbia..HYPMSC!..:)

ok, i just read gatekeepers. i feel like now i know a littttttle too much about what happens to my application.

"What about C?!..columbia..HYPMSC!"

the C in HYPSMC stands for Caltech.

huh..the C was never there..i added it in..to stand for Columbia...

is there anyone who knows about deferred applicants' chances of getting into Wes?
