hey thanks for looking at this i really appreciate it!
Background:
I now attend a very prestigious school in a very affluent neighborhood, however I came from a grade school that did not prepare students for this type of a challenging academic atmosphere. It was a fight to be able to go to the high school I do now, but I have always had the dream of attending a great college.
-I went through difficult transitional periods my frosh and soph years but beginning 2nd semester sophomore year have taken the hardest course load and have done extremely well.

Im a hispanic californian and would not need financial aid. Thanks for your help!

I think you have good stats... in my opinion... u are in at Irvine for sure and probably in at SD.... I know people with worse stats who got into LA this year... so that's also a possibility. You might wanna consider cal for the heck of it.

eastofLA....are you serious? Im not trying to be mean but he has no chance at Cal.

Here are some stats for Berkeley:

Avg. GPA: 4.35 W, 3.89 UW
Avg SAT: 1369/1600
Berkeley admits under 50% of students with 4.0 GPA's and above. The accept 7% of students with GPA's of 3.70-3.99.

I really dont think you can get into UCLA either, but definetly try. UCSD will also be a reach.

Good luck anyways. Try to increase your SAT score and that may help.

-eastofla, are you joking?? UCLA is a large large reach. UCSD is also a large reach. UCI would be a slight reach or a match at best. dont hand out bad info. To get into LA or SD, the average admit of these two schools is well over a 4.0 and around a 2000 sat.

This is coming from someone who got into Cal: you have a great chance of getting in.... those average stats are bull. Ignore them and apply and hope for the best.

Eastofla, i also got into Cal and all the other UC's and you are bringing his hopes WAY up, for no reason. How can the stats be bull? They are STATS, which mean that thats what the student body looks like. I dont know anybody that got into Berkeley, and i know about 25 of them, that had below a 4.0 GPA or below a 1950 SAT and their EC's were WAY better. Applicants with a 3.5-3.69 had a 4.8% chance of getting in at Cal in Fall 2005. Dont give out BS advice.

Obviously eastofla has no idea what he is talking about. how could average admission stats be bull, they give you a realistic idea of your shot at admission. of course it does not ensure you of admission or denial, but by inflating the posters hopes of admission unrealisticly when uc berkeley, ucla, and ucsd are clearly long shots, is not helpful. eastofla, stop giving bogus advice.

because you got into uc berkeley and ucsd does not meen you know anything about uc admission stats or likelihood of gaining admission. your prior posts on this thread show you know nothing about admission stats. a 3.5UW (3.65W) and 1830 is not a match at sd la or berkeley. These schools are reaches. this does not meen that the poster does not have a shot at gaining admission, it just means it is not likely. just dont give out bogus chances to posters looking for realistic predictions of their admissions.

what on earth are all these people stating? ucsd is not equivalent to uci and uc davis. ucsd's average gpa is well over a 4.0 and sat approx a 2000. the posters gpa is a 3.6 weighted and a 1830. ucsd is clearly not a match, its a reach, if not a large reach. ucla and berkeley and large reaches. irvine and davis are clearly slight reaches or matches at best, but their average gpa's are around a 3.9 and about an 1800. you also have ucsb with ucr, below uci and uc davis. what is that all about. ucsb has higher sat's and gpa averages than irvine and davis. its accpetance stats are also tougher than irvine and davis, with only 52% gaining admission while 59% get into irvine and 67% into davis. please dont post bogus chances. santa barbara has higher sat's and gpa's and a lower accpetance rate than irvine and davis, yet you have it below them. this is ridiculous. sb as a safety with a 3.6 and a 1830?? you have got to be kidding me. and sd as a match, with those stats, highly unlikely. the posters best chance to gain admittance to a mid tier uc (uci, ucsb, uc davis) is davis as it has the highest acceptance rate of the three and the lowest sat's and gpa's. uc berkeley, ucla, and ucsd are all top tier uc's, not usually clustered with irvine, santa barbara, and davis.

Before making ridiculous claims, check out the admission stats.

Clearly you can see the difference in stats. These stats were just updated by the unviersity of california a week ago. please stop posting bogus chances.

Before making ridiculous claims eastofla and vicissitudes, check the admission stats. placing ucsd with uci and uc davis is ridiculous, and placing ucsb with ucr is also ridiculous, as is calling ucsd a match for the poster.

i was admitted into both ucsd & berk with 3.8 gpa and 1620 sat 800/630 sat ii's. others saying that you have no chance for neither is a lie. that's what people told me before i made it in too. contrary to what others say, you have a chance though it may be very slim.. and even though the average acceptance stats indicate otherwise *shrugs.

i agree. ive been saying all along that the stats dont imply that he has no chance. i simply put that his chances are a long shot. yet others continue to imply that stats dont matter or that he is a match for top uc's. that is simply not the case. it doesnt meen he wont get in, or has no chance, it just meens that he likely wont get in and that his stats are well below average for the top schools (UC Berkeley, UCLA, UCSD). Furthermore, putting sd in the same chances group as davis and irvine is not accurate, and putting santa barbara in the same group as riverside and santa cruz, below irvine and davis is not accurate either as santa barbara is actually more difficult to gain admittance to than both irvine and davis.

Crimsonpham and eastofla....Guys, there are some flukes in admission, bu they are RARE. Some of you might have got into Berk or LA with low stats, however if you look at THE STATISTICS, you guys were among a VERY small percentage that were that lucky. Do you guys realize that applicants with his GPA had only a 2.9% chance of getting in to Cal in Fall of 2006. Check out UCChris's stats and then reassess your argument. Im not saying that he has no chance, but it is REALLY small (about 2.9%). So you can tell him about all these flukes in admission, but the bottome line is that he has an extremely slim chance of getting in.
