Applying to be a sophomore
3.85 GPA at Top 40 University notoriously known for hard grades
36 ACT
3.32 UW HS GPA at Top 100 nationally ranked private high school, with an upward trend
Specific, academic reason for transfer
I created a startup this year, good recs, very solid essays
List: WashU, Northwestern, UPenn, Vanderbilt, Tufts, NYU, Emory
Good chances, especially at NYU, and Vandy. Maybe Emory as well
The others will be harder due to low transfer acceptance rates.
Are you currently at Case, or GTech?
So you are currently at a school like CWR or GaTech I guess.
Your numbers are great, but what is your reason for transferring to that particular school ? Usually this includes why you want to leave your current school & why you want or need to attend the target school.
With reasonable explanations, and no disciplinary issues, any school should accept you if there is space available in your targeted major.
Have you researched how many transfers were accepted at each school last year or the year before that ?
First year retention rates for your targeted schools:
- WashUStL–96%
- Northwestern–98%
- UPenn–98%
- Vanderbilt–97%
- Tufts–96%
- NYU–93%
- Emory–94%
You can draw some conclusions based on the above retention rates, but it may well depend upon available space in a particular college within that university or even upon space in your targeted major.
@wiscokid: Interesting results when researching transfer admissions rates:
Your highest chances are at Vanderbilt, NYU & Emory. Lowest chance at Tufts.
Transfer rates:
-
Tufts–5.5%
-
UPenn–9.33%
-
Northwestern–11.9%
-
WashUStL–14.6%
-
Emory–approx. 25%–30%
-
NYU–28.8%
-
Vanderbilt–29.7%
Thanks for the input… didnt realize tufts was so low. Im not at case or GTech but a school similar in prestige I suppose (probably closer to NYU level). Im just hoping my weak HS GPA doesn’t ruin me
