Hey guys--just wanna know if i have a shot:

German Club: 9-12
Teen Republicans:11,12
Environmental club:10,11
Yearbook Sports Editor-12

Figure Skating Club-9-12
Rank-59 of 290
Total number of aps: 7
GPA: 4.26 weighted 3.4 unweighted

i've already got accepted in nc state, but was just wondering if i should be prepared for a let down on january 31st. if i need to put anything else up..just let me know..THANKS!!

With your rank and scores I think it's a reach. However, you are in-state, URM, and your ECs look pretty good (except for the Teen Republicans, kinda clashes with the Environmental Club, jk jk). I think you have a chance but not a strong one.

whew! atleast you didnt say "heck no! not in a million years!" haha. how big is legacy there? b/c my friend got in last year and his stats are:

white
mother and father attended
1180
teen republicans 10-12
Tennis 9,10
GPA: around 4.2 weighted
and he had 7 aps total

he did get deferred for early admission though..hmmm!

if it matters, my mom and dad are military and im in a single parent house? maybe it doesnt matter..? who knows!!! :-P

I'm not sure about the military thing. Legacy may help. The adcom told me that they don't put much emphasis on it, but when its a borderline decision between accepted/rejected the legacy can push you over onto the accepted side. I could definitely see this happening in your case. Carolina is weird in their in-state admissions, it's really hard to tell. Best of luck to you. Just out of curiosity, what other schools are you applying to?

ahh! im so nervous/scared!!! guess ill find out in a few weeks! i applied to (obviously..hehe) carolina, nc state, ecu, and appalachian. where all did you apply??

Ehh, here it goes again: Carolina (EA), Stanford (EA) - deferred, Princeton, Penn, Dartmouth, Brown, Cornell, Georgetown

teen republicans...eek.

jeesh! well you must be smart as anything! make me feel bad for applying! lol best of luck everywhere! and p.s. teen republicans rocks my socks :-P lol..philly is awesome..my cousin lives there!

lol. i applied EA to UNC also, but from about 3000 miles away in Idaholand....You have a better chance than i do in getting admission....good luck! (i know i need it)

Philly is awesome. I visited Penn during its homecoming it totally kicked @$$. Oh yeah, and I lived there for like a year of my life. But no, I'm not that smart. I am outstanding in my school, but unfortunately that doesn't mean much. Everybody told me that I have a chance with my 1430 and valedictorian status even at HYP. The deferral from Stanford and browsing of CC was a rude awakening for me. Those middle-50% SATs which I fall into are quite deceiving. Most kids on CC that have gotten in early to top schools have had 1500s and have won international math competitions or have founded homeless shelters. So looking back, I somewhat overlooked the level of competition for Stanford and Princeton and was a little mislead by others' advice/statistics. I think I'll be rejected by Stanford and Princeton; accepted by Carolina, Dartmouth, and Cornell; waitlisted or rejected by Penn, Brown, and Georgetown. The only thing that may help me is being from NC which doesn't have many applicants to competitive schools.

i got faith on yas! as for cc--i wish i woulda found this earlier!! aaahh! lol--oh! i was lookin at carolinas website and these are the stats from enrolling c/o 04:
11.3 percent African American/Black
7.6 percent Asian American/Asian
3.6 percent Hispanic/Latino/Latina
0.9 percent Native American/Alaskan Native
73.1 percent White/Caucasian
0.2 percent Pacific Islander
3.3 percent Other/Not reported

does the .2 % help me or hurt me???

the avg GPA was 4.3 and thats around mine however, the middle 50% of SAT is about 90+ pts higher than mine..eek! ps--happy christmas

Yeah, that .2% will definitely make up for the 90 pts.

anyone else have an opinion if they think i have a shot?? :-P

mradio...are you applying to penn? sounded like you talked yourself out of it. i really don't think you should be jaded by the 1600's all over CC. most people who apply to penn are normal, and don't have SAT scores that high. i know ppl (granted...they were philly kids) who got in with 12-1300 on the SAT. with sat scores like yours, you're fine. you'll prob. get in. and not a lot of ppl apply to penn from NC.

anyway, thats my story.

I didn't talk myself out of it, I was just saying how maybe I was misguided that I had a chance at schools like Stanford and Princeton. I agree, NC doesn't have many applicants to Penn, but neither does it have many applicants to Stanford and I got deferred. I think I have a much better chance at Penn than Stanford, and Stanfod hasn't rejected me yet. Time will tell.
