Rising junior speaking: I want to go to Purdue and I just want to know if I have a shot. I have a 3.6 (W) GPA and 3.3 (UW). I have a 30 ACT and will have 7 APs by 11th grade, but I am taking 5 more next year so a total of 12 APs by senior year. I am apllying to the college of health and human sciences. Any thoughts? (do you think this is a safety, safety-match , match-reach, reach)? Thanks.
Course rigor is important do not get me wrong. But you already have 7 APs which is just above par for Purdue standards. Why take 5 more just for the sake of taking them? If I were you I would find 2 that you actually enjoy and find beneficial to your major. Senior year grades are not taken into account so your GPA will not change in time, you should Senior year to relax a bit.
I think it matters what your major is going to be within the college as some are more competitive. HHS doesn’t post their breakdown of scores so it’s hard to really guess. I think your unweighted GPA is a bit low but your ACT is in the middle part of the range for the university as a whole. I would say you are a low match but it can change year to year since the application pool keeps growing. Look at the common data set trends.
I disagree with the above poster about taking APs senior year. Purdue is generous with AP credit and allowing to opt in to higher level courses, fulfilling gen ed requirements, and giving priority scheduling. Not to mention that keeping up the rigor will help with preparation for freshman year.
I’m assuming their GPA posted on their website… “3.6 - 4.0 mid-range” includes weighted GPAs so with that being said i’m within the lower range of their applicant pool. however, my ACT is a 30 which is almost in their top 25 percent, and plus i’m not doing engineering. We’ll see though. Thank you for the feedback.
