I sure you already realize that your GPA is significantly below the average 3.6 GPA for NYU, but do not use that as a deterrent from applying. A few lucky applicants with stats similar to yours are admitted to NYU every year…but a majority of those who are selected for admission have the strongest, most rigorous academic records.
Therefore, to submit a satisfactory response to your original question “chances” (based on the information you provided us with) is virtually impossible. Admission into any selective university is a crap shoot…a crap shoot for those with a 4.0 and a crap shoot for those with a 3.0. So who knows what your chances are…probably lower than those with a 4.0 GPA and 2000 SAT scores. However, this does not mean you will automatically be rejected from NYU. Good luck.

going to a high school that is ranked 26 is not going to mean anything if you can get high SATs.

they might like the fact that your a 1st gen. college student, and that your parents are immigrants, though, and your a minority.

well if it makes a difference
SAT II SCORES:
Spanish-760
US History-660
*on the note of my lower GPA, I took some really hard classes and because of that my grades are lower. I have taken an AP/Honors in every single department except Math.
*also, the 1700 showcases the first time taking the exam and without studying. I will be studying all summer and I expect to raise it up to almost 2000 or perhaps above. Does that help at all?

no one here is truly qualified to answer your question. i think that if NYU is your number one school, and you want to go there with a passion it will show in your essay and short answer. Best of luck on your application.

well i dont know if this helps much, but today i went to NYU and the rep said that their only looking at math and verbal and the average is 1300-1450

You're still about 200 points short, SAT-wise.

You might have a shot because of your background and resume, but NYU isn't interested in unqualified applicants. It'll make a huge different if you can get all your test scores above 600, even above 650. Then, I'd think you have a real good shot.

Good luck to you. :)

Anyone else have advice?

bump (10 characters)

bump bump bump....will a 2100+ get me in and also straight A's first semester senior year

i'll be honest, you're a long shot....but i think you can get into GSP

NYU doesn't ask for a mid-year report so those grades won't help. I find it hard to think you'll go up 300-400 points in the SAT. It's a very long shot for you to get in. I had over 300 points higher on my SAT, about the same GPA, and URM status. I was also recruited for track, and I only got into GSP. Of course none of us can know, but NYU doesn't really seem to be in your future.

Well Ive been taking lots of practice tests and as of now I have high 600s in all three sections now so I'm already close to my goal.
