The URM and highschool ranking are the only things that could save you...to be blunt

You should apply, but it's a long shot

O ya of course u should apply, never let anyone convince u ur not good enough for something...make it make u work harder.

You can always apply.

I would not, however, expect that you would get in with a 3.2. The high school "rank"will not save you - those are entirely dependent upon numbers of students who take AP classes. Furthermore, your low SATs correlate to your grades - it's not like you're split high/low on SAT/GPA.

Frankly, I don't think that being Hispanic will really help much. I could be wrong - I'm not an admissions officer - but I know that all of my friends at Tufts who are also URM are still extraordinariliy talented people. SATs were 1400+ (old scale, math + verbal); they are all athletes or dancers; and they all did well at good schools. Tufts will make you work hard; they don't let anyone coast through. It is one of those places where the hardest thing about it is NOT getting through the door, but rather succeeding once you are there.

You should apply, however, if you love it. You might be a compelling enough person (in that your parents had not gone to college). As financial aid is a factor, do NOT apply ED. If your parents make very little money, financial aid should be excellent - Tufts is very generous to those with almost nothing. The middle class, however, gets very little.

Please scroll through the archives on this forum. You can find the stats and ECs of the kids who got in, were waitlisted, and who were rejected. That can give you an excellent idea of where you stand.

well if it makes a difference
SAT II SCORES:
Spanish-760
US History-660
*on the note of my lower GPA, I took some really hard classes and because of that my grades are lower. I have taken an AP/Honors in every single department except Math.
*also, the 1700 showcases the first time taking the exam and without studying. I will be studying all summer and I expect to raise it up to almost 2000 or perhaps above. Does that help at all?

-I have taken many AP Exams and done quite well on them...have passed all with at least a 3.

Anybody else have advice for me?

You can apply, but to be honest I don't believe that you have much of a shot. As with other top schools, Tufts expects applicants to take the hardest curriculum possible and do well in them. They will take into account that you have a lot of AP's under your belt, but that, in my opinion, will only go so far.

16,000 applications, 1,200 seats.

Always apply if it's your first choice - you could get in. It's also worth it, often, to have an app on file in case you want to transfer.

"16,000 applications, 1,200 seats"

That doesn't seem right to me. That would mean Tufts has a lower admission rate than Yale. That's just not true.

Right, but not everyone who's accepted enrolls. The point that AiresAthena was trying to make is that lots of kids want to go to Tufts. The actual acceptance rate was about 26% this year.
