Enlist in the Navy. Once your at Great Lakes you can take the SEAL challenge. Then should you pass it, and graduate from boot camp you can go to your Military Occupational Specialty school (MOS). And after that you will be sent to BUD/S training. You may have to wait between your MOS school and BUD/S training if there are no slots in the classes open. After you pass the first phase you will go on to advanced training. Then 1 year probation while you serve on a team. Then your a SEAL.

My suggestion it to start running. Everywhere!!!

Better learn to swim. The hardest part about getting into the teams is all the mental ********. Just remember that they cannot kill you.

And if you do it as an Enlisted man BUD/S will be somewhat easier in some ways. Physically not really but getting into the training.

If you want to go to flight school then I would suggest joining ROTC at a good school. A friend of mine is in Pensacola doing his pilots training right now.

Wannabe,
Oh the delights of applying to a military academy from a foreign country! Been there, done that, have the tshirt. Of course, mine is black and gold, not blue and gold, but I did sacrifice my brother to the Goat God!

Have you already requested an application? E-mail your contact. Also see if the Base Commander has teleconferencing equipment. Since you are applying to an academy, they may help you out with official phone calls and the like. Photo copy everything before you send it off, or see if they will let you fax or scan and e-mail parts of your applications.

Where are your parents from originally? Where were you born? What state do they claim as residents? Where is your drivers licence from? As an over seas Army brat, I chose my birth state for my nomination. My other options were the state I went to high school in before we left, and the state where my parents pay their taxes. You can always call them and see if their offices consider you a viable application.

Yes, bzzzt, I have requested an application, if I'm thinking of the right one. I already have a candidate number and have been speaking to my BGO.

I am able to make calls myself without the Base Commander, or will I gain something from his assistance?

Both of my biological parents are U.S. citizens, native born, as am I. I don't believe we are considered U.S. residents, but I was born and Florida and that is the state I have my driver's license from.

Thanks for the help.

Also, would taking the ASVAB improve my chances of getting in? I've been looking into it but haven't found the Academy's policy on the test.

asvab is pretty pointless for admissions... i just know that I took the practice one for an army recruiter, got a 99 on it, and I didn't get into west point. If you want to enlist then go ahead and take it... I'm not sure if you need it for marine option NROTC but I'm pretty sure you need it for Marine Platoon Leaders Class.

Okay, so, take the ASVAB as a plan C but don't cout on it with the Academy. Got it.

Another question. For my nomination letters, I'm supposed to put down my highschool and it's address. My highschool is independent study, so do I put down the address of the school I send my work to?

You can make the calls yourself, that's not a problem. I'm sure the international phone service is fine in the Bahamas, for me, sometimes it worked, sometimes it didn't...

Ask your parents what state they pay taxes in, and I would use that as your nomination source.

Putting down your independent study school should be fine. Who are they accredited by?

It's not the Bahamas phone service I'll be using. Civilians have full access to phone and are allowed to make international calls provided we accept the charges. But they are relatively cheap. I don't know what state my mom payes taxes for, but my dad (they're divorced) lives in Florida so he pays taxes there.

The study program is provided by the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. I wasn't sure if I could put the address for a school that is over one half a country away from me. Your thoughts?
