I’m a junior in high school and I’ve felt pretty good about my chances of getting into college up until now. Just looking at the forums here I feel as though I might not be competitive enough. This is what my resume would look like right now:
-SAT: not yet taken
-ACT: 32
-AP US History
-AP Language and Composition
-AP Biology
-National Honor Society
-Science National Honor Society
-Student Council
-Young Democrats
-Volunteer hours for NHS and many at my local public library
My unweighted and weighted GPAs are both a 4.0, but by the end of the year my unweighted should be above a 4.0. I would like to major in psychology, and my list right now includes:
-UCLA (or any UC school)
-NYU
-University of Michigan
-Stanford
It would be my dream to go to Stanford, but I realize it’s unlikely (if there’s anything I could do please let me know ha). But what about the rest of my choices? Are they unreasonable as well? Is there anything I could do to strengthen my application before next year?
Thank you in advance!
Congratulations on all of your accomplishments! I have no doubt in my mind that there are plenty of schools out there for you.
A few questions:
What is your home state?
What can your family afford?
What is your major?
Well right now I live in Arkansas, but as a military brat I’ve lived many other places (I wouldn’t consider Arkansas home?). Finances also aren’t a huge concern because of the military, and anything we have to come out of pocket on is significantly less than paying full tuition. And I was hoping to major in psychology!
Can your family afford the costs of these schools once all of your aid is applied? I am not familiar with financial aid and military families.
I see NYU as a match and the other 3 schools as reaches. You should add a few more safety and match schools. Since you are a junior you have some time to work on your scores. I am confused about your gpa.
What I have is the Post 9/11 GI bill, and with some private schools participating in Yellow Ribbon it’ll only cost us a few thousand, which we can pay.
I definitely have a few safety schools, I just didn’t put them on here as I know I’m definitely qualified.
Sorry about the confusion on the GPA! What I was trying to say is right now my GPA both weighted and unweighted is a 4.0, but with the AP classes I’m taking right now, it’ll be around a 4.3 UW by the end of this school year. I hope that helps!
I understand…your gpa won’t be weighted until the end of junior year.
UCLA, Michigan, and Stanford are reaches. I see NYU as a match. You are a junior and still have time to increase your scores…keep in mind that schools can still be reaches even with higher scores.
UCLA and Michigan are not private schools. Are they still covered? They are very expensive for out of state students.
