I have a 3.5 UW GPA with pretty much all honors and 3 AP classes. I also already have 30 community college credits but that number will increase because all of my senior classes are for dual credit. My ACT is a 24 but I am taking it this saturday and if needed in October to increase my score. I am not worried about the essay portion but I was wondering if I should apply early or apply with the regular decision. I am an out of state candidate and UI is one of my top choices. If for some reason my ACT doesnt improve or only improves by 1 or 2 points...is there any chance I can still get in by applying early..or would it be better to wait?

what field?????????????

i was going to apply business but obviously my GPA and ACT score is a bit low...so right now econ major in liberal arts

Your coursework and GPA are fine but a 24 ACT is two points below the 25th percentile for LAS so you absoultely need to wait for a new ACT score. You can still apply before the priority deadline (Nov 15) using the Sept ACT score. Also, what is your class rank? UIUC uses that more than GPA.

What I would do is complete the online application and submit and send the counselor form and transcript now. Your app won't be considered until everything is in. If your Sept ACT score is 27 or more, then send it in to complete the app. If not, it would probably be safer to wait for the October test. Applying with an ACT score below the 25th percentile is a bad idea and is not worth it just to get the app in before priority deadline.

Class rank as of right now is 123/677 so about the 18th percentile. However many seniors are only taking half schedules this year and I am taking a full one so that will increase. But I am guessing thats too late since that will be figured in January

out of personal experience, apply to econ.
It is too much of a risk w/ your credentials to try and apply straight into business. However, if UIUC is not your top pick college, then go ahead and take the chance. You should get into econ fairly easily. But business I highly highly doubt.

i should be able to get into econ fairly easily with a 3.5 , 123/677, over 30 community college credits and a 24 on my ACT
??????? (although im taking it again saturday and will improve my score)

yes you SHOULD

got my ACT score up to a 27. better chances now?

Yeah, definitley. The score is still a bit low for LAS but the rest of your stats make up for it (except for maybe rank).

rank SHOULD improve significantly this year since i am taking a full schedule while many seniors are not. plus nearly all my classes are honors/ap

^Yeah, but if you are apllying Priority they won't even know that when they make their decision. And as for regular decision, they will only get the first semester. Either way, don't worry, you have a great chance now.

I'm not guaranteeing you but you should have a pretty good chance, depending on how many other people decide to apply for econ. this year.

congrats, three points better is always welcome/exciting, you did yourself a huge favor by taking it again. you have a shot now. I really don't think you'd have gotten in with the 24. Now comes an even tougher decision... wait to see if you can get it even higher and forgoe early applicant status...or send that one and cross your fingers it's high enough...

I'd ask for some opinions on that one.
