My brother is strongly considering the University of Tennessee-Knoxville. He is a senior this year in high school--thinking about majoring in Accounting. We are from Maryland and do not have a good grasp on his chances of being admitted to the University. If you could provide some feedback it would be greatly appreciated. Here are his stats:

HS GPA: 3.1
ACT: 21
Rank: Top 1/3 of Class
Curriculum: Has been enrolled in Honors level and AP classes throughout high school.

I'm a U.T. alumnus...and my oldest daughter got her B.A. there in May (now in grad school there)....but I am hearing that it's getting harder to get into U.T. Knoxville. I would definitely say 'give it a try'. I know we're not discussed much on CC, but Knoxville's a great college town. I would encourage your brother to get more prep material & try to raise that ACT score. Good luck to your family. P.S. My middle daughter's 1st choice school is UVA!. She'll be applying this fall.

Like the previous poster said, UT is getting to be competative. 1/3 of my class (the incoming Freshman class for Fall 2006) had a core GPA (the GPA that the school calculates w/ 4.0 being the highest) of a 4.0.

I applied to UT as an out of stater, from Florida. I had the 4.0 core GPA and a ACT of 26. I also applied EA, did the optional personal statement, and send letters of recommendation.

I would encourage your brother to apply. He will never know the outcome unless he takes a risk. If you have any other questions, feel free to ask. :)
