My brother is strongly considering George Mason. He is a senior this year in high school--thinking about majoring in Accounting. We are from Maryland and do not have a good grasp on his chances of being admitted to the University. If you could provide some feedback it would be greatly appreciated. Here are his stats:

HS GPA: 3.1
ACT: 21
Rank: Top 1/3 of Class
Curriculum: Has been enrolled in Honors level and AP classes throughout high school.

Nobody knows. Really. This year, the crowds have exploded on campus (they admitted a lot more freshman than in the past). This will be the first applicant class since the big 'final four' events of last March. I doubt even the admissions committee can give a knowledgable answer to this.

Just curious: why no SAT from Maryland?

In past years, the 25 - 75 percentile spread of the ACT at GMU was 20 - 24. Average HS GPA was 3.36. It appears that, with your brother's scores, he's got a tough case to make--tough, but not impossible.

My D is a freshman there. Her stats were a 3.3 GPA & a 24 ACT. It isn't that they admitted more freshman but rather their yield was higher. However they have a new dorm opening in the fall of 2007 with 200(?) more rooms. My D has loved the school so far. Don't expect much financial aid out-of-state...we are paying the full shot which is around $24,000.

hmm... well I live in VA and it seems that after the Final Four more kids at my school are going to apply to GMU. Some of them have good stats and a lot of them have stats more on par with your brother's. It's really difficult to guess how the Final Four run will change GMUs admission standards. I'm guessing that they will get a lot more over qualified applicants but will likely still accept the more average kids as well because they know a lot of the over qualified applicants will go somewhere else

I'm applying to GMU as well here are my stats:
1380 SAT (2000 including writing)
3.93 Total Weighted GPA
APs and Honors throughout high school
Class rank 33/~600

Well, my D goes to GMU and she is a freshmen this year. She got in with a 3.491 and 1090 or so on SATs not including writing, because they did not include that for her class. They told us their average admitted GPA was 3.6 and the SATs were 1190. I'm not sure that that really means much because a few of my daughter's friends were admitted there with lower GPAs then hers - and SAT scores. I expect your brother would be offered admission there. GMU is a great school. My D is having a lot of fun there this year. If he gets in, I would tell him to go. I don't know of anybody that doesn't like it there this year. My daughter has made a lot of friends and they all seem to really like it and are looking forward to the GMU basketball games to start in November.

Shazilla you'll most likely get into GMU. You have a chance at UVA and W&M too. Basically apply to whichever VA school you want and you'll have a chance.
