Chances?

.what are my chances of getting into the following schools? (on the scale of 1-10)

Princeton
Harvard
MIT
CalTech
Stanford
UC Berkeley
Cornell

It seems that looking some of the stats other ppl posted here I realized I am only a puny mortal....

south korean (came here 6 years ago)
in Northern California

gpa: 4.59 (all my B's in Freshmen...my grade improves semester by semester)
rank: 11 out of 400

Full International Baccalaureate Diploma Candidate
National Merit SemiFinalist (PSAT=227)

sat I: 1520 out of 1600 (will be taking the new one october)
Sat II: math 2c 800, physics 790, U.S. History 750, Korean 750, Writing 700 (will be retaking it)
IB Physics: 6
IB Spanish: 6
AP Calc BC: 5
AP Physics C (self-study): 4
APush:4

I am one of the 80-100 high school students world wide taking the IB math FL, the hardest IB test there is and you can only take it if you have taken AP Calc BC at your freshmen year.

NHS, CSF member, Principal's Honor Rolls, etc..... the standard stuff...

ec:
-Worked entire high school career, family has low income, my parents can't speak english....
-Tennis (4 year varsity, captain, lead the team to NorCal sections multiple times, League MVP, USTA Team Tennis Northern California 2nd Place for 2 years, and A LOT OF awards)
-Community Service (my tennis coach and I started a program to send $1000+ worth of tennis equipments to Tanzania...our project was published in "Inside Tennis" magazine) (also teach underprivleged students math and immigrants english)
-local church youth group volunteer
-National History Day Documentary Competition (1st at Sacramento, 1st at California, 3rd at Nationals)
-Science Olympiad (team 1st at Northern California, 19th at Nationals)
-Played piano for 8 years, got certificates of merit
-founder and president of film club, history club...directed many movies for film club
-i made a documentary on health of local creek and its impact on humans which got presented at Annual International Baccalaureate Science Teacher's Conference in Philadelphia
- Summer research on film / media computing at UCSD, final research project presented on the famous CAL-IT2 Theatre in San Diego
- I am preparing to send a video reel of films i had made, which i am confident about...(i want to double major in filmmaking and engineering)

I have a feeling that my scores and my ranking is on the low side......but can my extra curriculars offset these fallacies? I will also get extremely good recommendations, and i am writing what I think are good essays...

Any input will be thankful!

Princeton-low reach 30%
Harvard-reach 20%
MIT-reach 20%
CalTech-reach 20-25%
Stanford-match 60%
UC Berkeley-low match 60-75%
Cornell-match 35-45%

Your stats are excellent. However, there are houndreds of other people who are nearly identical applying at the same places. The key is going to be have better essays, recommendations, and new test scores than the 10 people ahead of you in class rankings. If your credentials are this great, and you are only 11, you must have top-notch competition from your school. I do think you have a farely decent chance at most of the schools. good work

Briguy, you are seriouly misinformed about what it takes to get into Stanford.

You have a shot at all if your recs and esays are exceptional. Your best chance would be getting recruited for tennis.

I think your best shot is MIT if you took calc as a freshman and kept going. But why no AIME, RSI or math ECs? I'm assuming you have an 800 math or really close.

ah sorry i forgot to mention...here are math ec's

aime qualifier
Accepted to UC Davis Math Modeling / Math Circle Program
Northern California American Regional Mathematics League Team (placed 2nd at B Section West Site)
Captain of Mira Loma High School Mathaletes Team

btw....only gods attend RSI. 20 ppl from our school all applied, all failed to get in.

If I want to get into stanford without being recruited, about what score on the new sat should i get? I know i can get 800 on math, and near 800 on writing.

2300 at the very least for an unhooked applicant like yourself

Princeton - reach
Harvard - reach
MIT - reach
CalTech - low reach
Stanford - reach
UC Berkeley - match
Cornell - match

gqunit:

UCB: Match (Engineering)

6 in IB Physics is not impressive for those universities you listed, and 790 for SAT2 Physics is not too good either, if you are planning to major in engineering (I am assuming you took HL Physics)

anonamous. WHAT??? Really?

gahhh.

You still have good chance at Cornell and UCBerkeley, and many top engineering programs. Here are some of them:

U of Michigan AA - safe match
U of Illinois UC - safety
Carnegie Mellon - safe match
Georgia Tech - safety
Purdue - safety
Columbia - Slight Reach
Harvey Mudd - Slight Reach
Johns Hopkins - Match
Northwestern - Match
Rice - Match
Duke - Slight Reach
UPenn - Slight Reach

Apply to some of the reach schools if you want, but do not expect anything out of it. Admissions is sometimes random, and you might just get in!

whoaaa
ide say where you go to school could be significant

and i find it funny you didnt say u go to a competetive highschool since your school is one of the best in the state.

D**m great school, i wish i went there.

I go to Granite bay...if u dont know where that is, it's like right outside of roseville.

Yeah
my college counselor always talks about how good of a school mira loma is.

Your school does have a reputation doesnt it?
So ide say, try taking the ACT
and retake SAT if you have taken it less than 3 times.

and Good luck.

Yo Gikui
lol is it you?
stop boasting
im taking FL Math too...
you don't need to take AP Calc BC freshman year to take FL
only Eric did that..
other than that you don't
plus the SAT II Physics/Chem/Bio are totally overrated
if you took AP Physics C then it doesn't matter
its really not that hard.. just math with physics
anyways have fun at Stanford
What major u at now?
