Chances???

i know no one can tell about my chances..as essays and recos are essential parts of the process...even with them it can not be predicted...and without them it is even more unpredicatable ...but please tell me what u think

i worked really hard in all of these...but it seems little compared to others....even though i did so much in these few clubs... and looking at CC , everyone is athlete. some are fencing and some are figure skating.. will my not being an athlete hurt my chances?

got about 10 awards for the same thing...

well from the stats above, it really looks like you took full advantage of the opportunities you were given in a 3rd world country. princeton adcom reps take everything in context of your background and available resources, ect so they shouldnt hold anything against you

id say solid chances

thanx pk, i never thought about it that way... i am so relieved by what u said...

You got 5 scores on Physics C and Calculus BC after one month of self-study? All I can say is wow. You're obviously highly intelligent and coming from such a unique and interesting background I would think you have a very solid chance.

Great stats! I do believe I read somewhere that the Ivy League schools tend to admit more wealthy international applicants than not. The reason for this is that they have a limited financial aid budget with regard to internationals (which would make them need-blind for the U.S. pool but “need-aware” for the international pool). Princeton is the most generous as far as financial aid, so perhaps it shouldn't be a concern.

But as you said, it's difficult to discern ANYONE'S chances (especially sans essays/letters of rec./interview). You hit the submit button right? So just live with that decision and move on. Chances threads are more appropriate BEFORE one applies (not so much ex post facto).

Just a little friendly advice from a current Princeton freshman. If you have any questions about life at Princeton or anything at all, feel free to PM me. :)

i was genuinely interested in calculus...that's why i took it...so, it was not hard for me to read it....i was reading those books as if i was reading a novel... but it was really hard for me to take those test under such a small time interval....but, it gave me the habit of studying myself(it was more fun than i expected).... confidence and work habits it helped me develop were more important than the scores..

Great stats, URM, I say you have a good shot

really? i thought that all "asians" are just considered asians.

i don't know what i will be considered.... majority of people think that asians are just chinese, japanese and ...... My continent is Asia..but i don't know what i will be considered as.

An international student perhaps? There are "other" categories. Do you know how many people usually apply from your country?

doesn't applying international hurt chances?

I've heard that...I don't know whether it's true or not.

there are 3 applying to princeton from my country..as far as i know

Then you know at least one of you is going to get in. I mean, there's a lower admit rate for int'l kids, but they want to get as many countries represented as possible. Thus, your chances are greater than or equal to 33.3333%

that is higher than ED rate in US lol

btw, how do you know only 3 are applying from ur country?

i don't but...there are kinda three best schools in my country(even thought mine is best among the best..lol.)...and one is applying from each...as far as i know...but there can be others...however, i have rarely known of people outside of these three schools who apply to ivys...

"SAT - 1st and only sitting (oct 06)- 1570/2300"
I'm assuming you meant 1570/1600.

Like the others have said, solid stats + impressive self study + unique and interesting background = ED admit, limited international finaid should not be a problem as the admin really loves internationals from obscure countries and has billions of $.

Princeton doesn't have to accept someone from every country that applies (e.g. only 49 states were represented in last year's incoming class). I don't think Princeton feels the need to represent everyone perfectly.

"I'm assuming you meant 1570/1600."

lol :)

yeh jons right, just as there were 122 countries represented in applicant pool, yet admittees only represent about 50.

also, admission is not as formulaic as umight think. im pretty sure thats not the case.
