What are chances for admission? Any chances for scholarship? minority, instate.

And I was thinking a 1940 on the SAT was good enough? I called WF today and they said they don't consider the writing section, which seems odd because they put a lot of emphasis on the writing components of the application.

Well, I've been a bit out of the admissions loop for some time now, but if they don't even put a lot of stock into writing, you're at 1270 which is below the median I'm pretty sure. Again, I'm out of the loop. It would seem to me that +100 on the SAT would be ideal? Anyone chime in.

Well I hope WF wont deny me because I missed 10 more questions than Applicant X, especially during a 4 hour saturday morning timed test that is not even at my school.

But please give me an idea of my status with my EC's and all. are u a current student at WF emsibdn?

Well, it's been a while since I've been in the admissions gambling game. GPA's good. Minority status is nice. Lovely APs. ECs look nice. That SAT I and II needs help, though. An idiot's complete guesstimate: as it stands now, 70%. Improve on the SAT and I think you'll be at 80% or higher. Of course these numbers don't mean anything, without essays, reccs, and a whole lot of other factors. I think Wake will look nicely upon you, but just make their decision a whole lot easier.

DISCLAIMER: Emsibdn doesn't know anything. Don't listen to a single word.

well I took the SAT 3 times lol...and I really dont want to take the test again. (nor provide the college board with 40 dollars of my hard earned money :P).

But winning 1st place in NC for DECA should be a good rec. I even went to the International competitions in California and Texas.

I'd say you have a pretty good shot as a URM especially. However, I'd feel a lot more confident to be well into the 1300s. The writing section of the SAT's is too new to put large stock into. Wake feels that its own writing samples are much more insightful than CB's. I'd suggest putting a lot of time into your essays as they are one of the most important parts of the admissions process. You might have a chance for scholarships based on your minority status, but not on your academic one. Merit aid seems to be pretty elusive at Wake, although I suppose you should always try. But overall I agree with saket and emsibdn, you have a decent chance, but it would really help you to raise your SATs.

Edit:
I saw in the other thread that you are Indian. I thought you meant a URM. Being an Indian doesn't really help all that much, it probably does a bit, but your chances are only average IMO.

I don't know, I really dont think taking the SAT a 4th time will help much (other than maybe 20-30 point increase)...and I dont have time to study for it because I am applying to other colleges.

Also, will the campus visit help (show interest in Wake)?

what about state level awards such as my DECA involvement.

What do u guys think my chances are currently? I plan to send 2 teacher rec's, to give more insight into my character/abilities.

I don't like to quantify chances, because people told me I didn't have a great shot either, but without at least into the 1300s it looks very iffy. I agree with Saket that ATM your essays better be damn fine.

I fall in the range. I don't mean to sound ignorant, but I dont want to take the SAT's again. I will not improve on my 4th chance at the SAT...I think its a waste of time. Seriously, I hope they will over look 50 points on a freaking standardized test and let me in. I have a lot of AP's and EC's and a state-level 1st place award. I dont know what else to do...and u cant really study for the SAT...even if u can, its a bit too late to do it in ur Senior year. I took practice tests.

Well, you say you fall in the range. Do you realize that football players and basketball players also go to Wake Forest. With all respect to them, they are awesome, But they bring the average down. So unless you're 6' 3" and wiegh 240+ pounds, its a tough call.

No one's saying you have no chance, quite the contrary. We are just saying if would severely help your chances by getting your SAT's up. As for athletes, 10% of students are on athletic scholarship, that is quite a high number, because we are D1A and small. For a normal student this is what the adcom told me: in the 1300s its iffy, over 1400 you should feel pretty safe. Certain factors can help you such as URM, early decision, legacy, etc. I would not be surprised if you got in, but I would not be surprised if you did not. This is the honest truth, you are asking for our opinions and here they are. I wish you the best of luck! If you want to increase your chances ATM then get an interview if possible, visit for sure, and spend quality time on your essays. Your chances for scholarships are slim unless they are need based, however you are a NC resident and that helps. Scholarships are hard to get here.

My son was accepted 2 years ago with SATs in the mid 1300s, rank of 3/288. Did ED, no URM, no legacy.

Three other students from his high school accepted--2 with SATs in the 1300s and 1 with an SAT just below 1200 with an URM status. Out of the 4, 2 did ED and 2 did RD.
