Chances?

2280 SAT (800M/740CR/740W)
SAT II: 800 Math Level 2, 730 Chem (ack), 730 US History
AP's taken: European History (4), Calculus BC (5), Chemistry (5), English Language (4), US History (5)
Courseload this year: AP US Government, AP Macroeconomics/Microeconomics, AP Physics C, Multivariable Calculus, Statistics at the comm. college (no room in schedule--our school uses 4x4 block, so 4 AP's is a full schedule, etc), Number Theory at a univ. next semester, maybe Differential Equations (math person if you can't tell :P)
Rank: 1 out of 1155 seniors
GPA: 4.0 unweighted/5.14 weighted (though my county uses 4.0 regular/5.0 honors/6.0 AP--don't know how that correlates to other scales)
AMC 12: 121.5
AIME: 7

Extracurriculars:
Vice President of Mu Alpha Theta (math honor society/competition team); ~40 awards from MAO (incl. a couple national first places, in number theory and calculus ciphering)
Treasurer of Brain Bowl/Brain Brawl (although this is more of a "technical" officer position--I'm one of the few kids actively involved, and we were required to have officers to be recognized by the school as a club. I do, however, actively compete)
Organizer of a middle school math competition
Member of science honor society & national honor society (the former for which I do chemistry tutoring and the latter which is pointless, but I'm in mainly to be able to do Brain Brawl)
I don't have that much volunteer work--it's 232 hours, but most of it has come from the middle school competition, tutoring (both chem and math--tutoring's a part of Mu Alpha Theta requirements), and just helping out in general around the school.

I would say you have a strong shot. 7 AIME and national first places, and college classes are strong points. With good essays and rec's, I'd say you have a good shot. Not that anything with Caltech apps is a certainty, but i bet you get in.

maybe retake that Chem SATII. Other than that, id say ur chances are good

We have almost identical math classes.....

It'd be pretty much pointless to retake the Chem SAT II if you've got a decent score and scored well on AP Chem (which you did).

I personally don't see the chem score really hurting his chances...

Yeah i guess with the 5 on the AP, it wont really make much of a difference. I got a 740 on my chem SAT II the first time i took it though, and when i retook it, i got a 790. So I guess just do whatever you think is best.

I'm a chemistry major at Caltech who got about the same chemistry SAT II score as you. Retaking it would be silly. That time would be better spent learning about or working on a project for something that actually interests you.
