Hi all,

I am an International student, currently studying 12th Grade in a school which follows Indian curriculum CBSE (Central Board of Secondary Education).

I just wanted to know what my chances are in getting admission for Mechanical Engineering.

I don’t have GPA grading in my school. The grading is purely based on marks obtained:
9th - 85% (maths-A, science-A, social studies-A, English-B, Hindi-B)
10th - 90% (maths-A, science-A, social studies-A, english-A, hindi-B)
11th – 75% (maths-C, physics-A, chemistry-B, computer science-A, english-A)

I had also received a scholarship in grade 11.

ACTIVITIES :
I have been selected to attend the Global Young Leaders’ Conference (GYLC) in Washington/New York this year.
Swimming
Singing
Made Robot for science exhibition which uses sensors to travel through a maze and then using LED’s to show the intensity of the light in its path.
Have made many presentations in Computer Science, Physics and Chemistry.
Helped the team in coming 3rd in an inter-school robot competition
Information Head in the school Anti-Smoking Committee.
I have been learning Indian Carnatic Music vocal for over 10 years and have given a 2 and half hour concert.
I have also been learning Carnatic Music violin for over 4 years and have recently won 3rd place in the Inter-House Talent contest held in my school.

SAT SCORES:
MATH - 730
CR – 600
W - 640

Going to give SAT II's in November. Will get above 750 in maths, physics and chemistry.

Teacher Recommendations and the guidance counselor recommendations are really good (in fact excellent). Read all of them.

you're sat's are pretty low, so you might consider retaking them.
cant really say much about your academics cuse there's no real basis for comparison.

but overall, your extracurriculars are really good/borderline outstanding.
sat's the only real problem here.

where in india do you live?
and why not IIT?!?!

i don't live in India, i live in United Arab Emirates.

I cant get into IIT coz it is very difficult and i am sure i cant beat the Indian students applying there.

yeah i heard its difficult to get into as well. the gylc's useless though, i wouldnt even recommend mentioning it in your app. the instruments you play make you unique, i'd place a lot of emphasis on them in your essays if i were you.

thnx for the reply.......i am writing about Carnatic Music in my essays, so i am kinda stressing on my strong point otherwise i am sure i wont make it to Duke

i dont know if it helps in anyway

my school does not rank put the counselor put me in the top 10% and that i follow the most rigorous course available in school

i agree with the others. if i were you, i would definitley emphasize my EC's. your C in math in 11th grade may be slightly detrimental, but if you do well on the math SAT II then you may be able to compensate for that.

yup....waiting for my SAT II results and hope they are good...........

It says you recieved a scholarship in 11th grade... Are you applying for Financial Aid?

no i am not applying for financial aid

In grade 11 i got a scholarship based on my academic performance in grade 10

And what is this scholarship for? Your high school education? Not applying for financial aid is a bonus for your application

the scholarship is based on very good grades in the Board Exam held by the Central Board of Secondary Education.

The scholarship is only available to grade 10 students who get 4A1's in the Board Exam.

Approximately around 10 students get the scholarship every year.

I am so confused... Is this a scholarship for your college education or for high school? Is that 10 students out of your school or all of UAE?

scholarship in my school not for higher studies..............it is only 10 students from my school not UAE
