Chances?

I wanted to know if I have a good chance of getting into UF?

I have a weighted GPA of 4.2 and 1280 on my SAT. applied for early decision and summer term.

I'm instate , IB school.

I have a decent EC and community service hours.

My school generally has a good amount of student getting into UF.

Though last year, more people got rejected than usual.

based on my stats( Iknow that essay is important also, but since I can;t upload my essay,,) do I have a shot?

Youre in.....

thanks, but Im kinda worried about my rank. some of the kids at my school have the WGPA over 5.0. This scares me a little bit. and my rank is somewhere around 110/400= 70% ???

They love IB students, especially with high GPAs like yours. They actually add to your sat scores because youre an IB student. Your SAT scores are also solid, so you should be in.

Oh! and one more question,

Is being an asian a disadvantage? cause I heard the rumor that the UF is accepting lesser asian students every year.

I think it is. Im asian too :/

really? :)

How's your stats?

I'm worried about my SAT score and rank....

I hope we both get in !!

My SAT score is an 1180. But my GPA is a 4.26 Recalculated GPA and im ranked 8/450 students, but I also attended the Upward Bound program, which gives me an edge during the admissions process. :P

did you apply for summer?

Nope. Officers told me that it doesnt really matter which term I apply for. So applied for fall. So eh......You think I'll get in?

everything looks great except for your SAT score. But I think your GPA will cover up your SAT. and it's not that low from the average. You should be fine.

what do you think about mine ? :)

I cannot wait till friday to find out!!!!!!!!

I think youre in the same boat as me. But IB is impressive with that GPA. Your SAT scores are exactly average. But essentially, that program gives me a good edge. I think were both in. But I heard the had 360 something valedictorians last year and they only accepted 340 or so. So....CRAP. Btw. Does having my sister attend UF help me at all?

And yes....omfg why friday. The anticipation is killing me. WHY CANT UF HAVE ROLLING ADMISSIONS. :( Can I apply for RD if I get rejected for ED?

UF is required by law to accept the top 5% graduating seniors in florida who also happen to be in a college preparatory program (namely IB) -- check their website if you don't believe me. Your 4.1 GPA is also great, 1280 SAT is well within the mid 50%, and if you did ED you are definitely in! Welcome to the Gator Nation...

What If Im not in IB. Does it still apply?

Lansing: Are you in state, and in a "college preparatory program"? Even if you aren't, I think you will be accepted. UF loves minorities (especially asians...I see a lot of them on campus! :P ) and if you have a sister already at UF, you are almost gauranteed a position at the university as UF weighs family connections very heavily. I don't think your SAT is a problem at all given your high GPA and other stats.

One more thing...did you take any AP courses?

Yes. Junior Year they only offer AP US History, and I took it and got a 4 on the exam. Senior year, other than foreign launguages, they offer AP Calc and AP English (1st year AP English has started) and Im taking both. :P I thought legacy only coutns for parents and grandparents.....but I took some dual enrollment classes. Only college thing I did was the Upward Bound Shadow thing.....Are you sure im pretty much in? :P And Yes, I am instate.
Also....asians are overrepresented? Therefore it hurts me? o_O

Unless there's something else that you haven't mentioned...such as a criminal charge... you have absolutely nothing to worry about. Believe me, you're in :)

I hope so. But how can you be so sure? Explain? I called UF and they said the 5% rule doesn't exist.

Here's the fact on UF's common data set for 2006-2007:

Note: Florida public high school students graduating in the top 5% and completing the college preparatory curriculum are guaranteed admission to UF.

It's near the middle of the page (C10) on this site:
