Alpaca brings up an interesting point; violins are expensive. Have you ever been aprehended by local law enforcement for robbing a music store? If so, this may hurt your chances of admission. Please do not misinterpret me, I can understand why one such as yourself would have to steal a violin. With your degree of talent ("numerous statewide awards") it is clear that the only thing that could be holding you back is your instrument. Be sure (if you haven't already) to inform the admissions office at Chicago of this necessity; I believe they may understand. Tell them your family is starving on the streets of Cleveland while you're at it. Chicago pities inner city kids with promise, however, your private school transcript may not agree with this. To conclude, please tell them about the violin. They will find out sooner or later and a rescinded admission is worse than a rejection. Best regards.
