Chances

I just had an interview in Saddle Brook with a woman named Lichtstein, who said that "I would fit in very well at the Rochester campus," and she said "when I saw your interview sheet, I was very excited by your interest in Eastman."

Probably doesn't mean anything, but, Rochester is a top choice of mine (can't apply ED II...long story), and was wondering what my chances are for regular decision.

College Coursework:
I participated in the U of Penn pre-college program this summer. Took screenwriting, got an A, 3 credits...

Also, my high school is highly competitive and public, so, we don't rank.

I would have to say that you have an extremely good chance at acceptance to Rochester. You have excellent stats, great GPA, and a small list ECs with large amounts of dedication. Best of luck, did you apply for scholarships?

Is my GPA really all that great? (3.20 unweighted / 4.12 weighted)

Applying for scholarships...no...because I thought I would be lucky to be accepted...

Also, tell me if this helps...1st quarter senior year, I had much better grades:

AP English Literature - A
AP Government - A
AP Spanish - B
Honors Astronomy - A
Calculus - A

i'd say high medium match. You're unweighted gpa troubles me, but your test scores are good, and so are your ecs. You'll probally get in, and if your essay is real good, it'll make it that much easier.

Right. It troubles me too, lol...

But, percentage-wise, what are my chances? My private counselor said 60%. What do you all think?

Hahahaha....i dont think u can really calculate chances!!!! 60%? What a random number. Anyway I think that u have a decent shot b/c u show improvement from freshman to senior year and have good ECs. SATs are really good, but they arent a big factor for U of R. Good luck and try not to stress!

Sorry to steal your thread, but U of R is my top choice!

I really want to get in but I am so insecure of my chances.

I am out of state (Oregon) and URM Asian.

Quick Summary:

SAT I: 1950
GPA: 3.4 UW / 3.8 W
EC's: Plenty of EC's, a few leadership spots in youth group.

THE ONE THING THAT SCARES ME THE MOST!!!! I have a downward trend my grades. From a 4.0 with a very hard freshman courseload, to having 3.6 sophomore and a TERRIBLE 2.9 junior year. After the first trimester of senior year I got a 3.8. BUT! To my defense, I have taken the hardest classes possible, all at the same time. So my GPA going down may be explained by the rigor of my courseload, but by no means excuses it. So hopefully they will take that into consideration.

My chances? I have NOT done an interview yet, but I hope to get one done soon. I really want to go to the east coast for college because the west coast sucks!

I'll steal the thread right back!

lol...j/k...it can be both our threads, solsek. How can you be URM and Asian?

Can anyone else assess my chances? Some kid gave me a 40% chance at Rochester, but then, this kid was kind of psychotic. He IM'd me out of the blue and started insulting me, and when I insulted him back, he said I'm "blacklisted" from George Washington, Swarthmore, Haverford, and Barnard (I'm a guy, lol). Just some stupid troll probably. But, is he right about Rochester?

If you had ED'd your chances would have been pretty good. In the RD pool, GPA seems to be a bit low. If you are not in the top 10% of your class, Rochester is a big reach.

Hmm...Why does your school put an extra 1.0 on the GPA for an honors course? My school does not do that because honors courses are not "national" classes that are the same throughout the country. 3.2 UW and 4.12 W seems like a HUGE jump. Through my experience, (at least in my general area of Oregon/Washington) I have not heard of a school putting an extra 1.0 point for an honors course, but it is probably different in your area. I did the "honors credit" for freshman english and sophomore english in my school but I don't think that they will give a 5.0 to me for my weighted GPA.

BTW: CollegeBound2007, are you taking to HeavenWood, me or both of us? My stats are above as well.

We do put an extra 1.0 for honors courses. Anyway...

Yeah...my school doesn't rank. So, no need to worry about that.

Also, ED acceptance rate to Rochester is exactly the same as RD acceptance rate.

I would say both of you, considering your stats, are pretty good matches for the university of rochester. I live 15 minutes away from the campus, and I absolutely love the school...It's amazing. I didn't apply, though, because it's too close to home and I already know where I want to go. My friend's stats are similar to heaven wood's and she got in ED, so I'd say you have a good chance.

Best of luck to both of you.

Yeah...I fell in love with the campus. A potential problem is that I'm not a good candidate for merit aid, and my second choice (the honors college at the University of Pittsburgh), is comparatively cheap (I'm in-state), and, I'm getting a small scholarship as well.

WOW!!!! My second choice is the University of Pittsburgh too! That's crazy!

I hope we get in, maybe we'll see each other at UP or UR! :)

I'm from Oregon so hopefully that is a hook for me! hahah

I guess i'm going to be applying ED II. Lets hope I get in.

you guys mentioned applying for scholarships...aren't you automatically considered when you apply? or is there some extra thing you need to do?

No, I believe the information is on the website, but I think you need to apply ED to be considered for scholarships.

no that incorrecy. You need to apply before dec 15, to qualify for scholarships, but your app can be regular decision.

Yes, or switch your RD application to ED II.

Actually, the scholarship date was December 1 (and it can be RD). I don't know how flexible they are with that deadline.
