my senior yr, it went down from being like top 1-2 percent to being like top 3 percent, b/c i took some insane courses, ap physics, ap chem and ap calc bc and some other aps, i didnt get below a 90 in any course

The thing that most hurts is not your performance, but the transfer rates. Just make sure that your recs, essays, etc...are excellent and you have a shot, even if some of the schools are reaches.

your high school stats will actually be really important in this case, so if you could post them, that'd be good. you're doing great at NU, which is a plus. Stanford accepts around 5% I believe, so good luck. You're definitley not just throwing money at them or anything - it's worth applying - but will remain a reach for virtually everyone.

Columbia's is around 10%? I'd say you fare a better shot there.

If you're just looking around, why not consider UPenn?

Why Stanford and Columbia, they are VERY different schools? If anything, Brown fits more with Harvard, Stanford, Duke, and Dartmouth than Columbia.

Everyone seems to be ripping the OP. The fact is that he has better credentials than most...everyone applying as a transfer this year coming from Northwestern with a stellar GPA and an obviously great HS record.

Despite the low acceptance rates of the schools he is applying to, don't you guys think he will get into maybe 2/5 schools he indicated?

There's nothing more anyone can tell the OP. He has a better shot than many that ask for chances, but he's applying to the best schools. Therefore, he's in the running.

he doensn't have a good shot. no one has a good shot to those schools unless your coming from harvard or something. the truth is, even though he is better than most who have posted stats, that has no bearing on whether he will get in. 5% acceptance means that you have to beat 19 out of 20 ppl. I'm not saying he can't, but first from the limited information hes given you cannot determine, and secondly, you just can't determine at all because we don't know the whole strength of applicant pool at these schools. however, i will say that you do seem to have a pretty good shot if the applicant pool came strictly from collegeconfidential

most people who go to stanford, harvard, columbia, etc from highschool are not only the top 5% percent, but the top 10 kids in the class, depending on the competitiveness and size of the class. so, if the transfer rates are even lower, it just seems that much harder to get in. none of the schools you have selected have even a semi decent trasfer rate. btw, brown had like a 4% transfer rate last year, so thats tough too. i would say Cornell is a pretty top school with a decent transfer rate. however, it is one tier down from the schools that you are looking to apply to. good luck, you have a shot, but thats about all we can say
