Chances?

Male, Asian American - URM
Public school

SAT I' s:
1950, I hope it will improve to 2000+. I took the Dec. 2nd test and it looks like i've only missed 6 or 7 questions total so far...so I am hoping for a 2000+. Taking again on Jan. 27 to try to get 2300+ for JHU and USC.

GPA UW/W:
3.44 / 3.84 - Ouch I know...took the hardest possible classes all at the same time, killed my GPA. I guess you could say that I am the kid that got the B's and few A's without even studying. I have learned from my mistakes in HS and I will take my new attitude for school into me where I go to college.

Rank:
Top 25%

Courseload:
13 AP classes

ECs:
Piano 7 yrs
Drums 7 yrs
JV Tennis (10,11)
Varisty Tennis (12)
Tutoring (1 yr)
Chess club (1 yr)
Ping Pong Club
Volunteering at my church doing fund raisers and other things (+200 hours)
Church youth group secretary (10th)
Church youth group VP (11th)
A few others but nothing special...

As you can see, the majority of the EC's are not really school oriented, but instead related with church. I really hope this does not absolutely kill me, but hopefully I can add something in the essays that show my passion for my faith in God.

Employment:
None

Personal hobbies/interests:
Play drums for my church praise and worship team which takes around 5 hours a week to prepare for. Besides music as being one of my major hobbies, I do enjoy computer programming and anything related to the computer.

I plan to major in either biochemistry or biology (pre-med) at whatever colleges I get accepted to. Then hopefully apply to a top ranked medical school for graduate admission.

Schools:

Johns Hopkins University
University of Southern California
University of Pittsburgh
University of Washington
University of Oregon
University of Rochester
Baylor
Oregon State University

I might apply to another school if anyone can suggest a school with a strong pre-med program, and that I may have a chance to still get into (and apply if it is not too late). Looking for college that is in the northeast.

Thanks for your input in advance.

Thank you for the input, looks like I will be studying all winter break for the Jan SAT's. USC and JHU are the only two that will accept Jan 27. scores so I am looking forward to a really high score there to add to my chances!

Also for those that are going to reply.

Boston College is the last school I will be applying to as they are a Christian/Catholic college and I hope that my dedication towards my church through community service and involvement will offset my GPA somewhat.

BC is a Match.

bump! 1!!!!!!!1

Anyone elses insight?

Ha, I think they've covered it all from my standpoint.

After 71 posts you can't possibly believe Asians are URM outside of the deep south and a few mw schools.

Well it depends what type of "asian" you are. Some are classified as URM some are not. My type of "asian" is classified as the URM kind. haha

At least I have that working for me though.

BTW This was the finalized list of colleges.

So from what people have said this is what I am assuming my chances will be.

What the hell kind of asian are you talking about? North Korean? That ain't gonna help. And UW Mad had over 60% of the incoming class in the top 10%, and your SATs are around/under the 50% line there.
