I was just deferred or rejected (not sure which yet) from Carnegie Mellon and will be applying to Case Western. I hadn't really considered it much before but I've heard it's somewhat similar to CMU, so I wanted to know if I have a chance here.

I am interested in chemical engineering.

Very competitive public school in MA
GPA 3.7 weighted
No rank
SAT 2240- 790M 700V 750W (do they consider the writing score?)
SAT2 790IIc 680 chem

4 years of a varsity sport- 1 year as captain
~200 hours community service
summer jobs
various clubs

Also, how hard would it be for me to get a merit scholarship here?

cmu hopeful -
as long as the rest of your application is decent (recommendations, essays etc.) i would think you'd get into Case possibly with a merit based scholarship depending on your class rank as well as your unweighted gpa.

As for merit, nothing is definite but you would be in range for as much as $20K per year. Apply as early as you can, show that you are serious about attending Case in your application, and show what you would bring to the Case community. Somehow they have to decide who to offer scholarships to.

Look at their varsity sports web pages. If you want to play in college, submit their recruitment form on line, and write to the coach.

Best of luck! There are a lot of students at Case who are glad they chose it over CMU.
