chances....?

i know everyone does this but being from out of state i havent really been able to find information on what acceptance rates are and what my chances for admission are.... i visited a&m and absolutely fell in love with the environment, traditions, people... literally everything

gpa: 3.4 unwaited 3.6 waited.... very strong upward trend with straight a's my junior year... also i am a year ahead in math and have taken 5 years of science once i graduate

senior courses:
ap gov/econ
ap statistics
ap environmental science
advanced culinary arts
geology
teacher aid.... :)!

sat: 1280 (730 math 550 verbal)

my school doesnt rank but is really well known in california... i dont know about the rest of the country.... consistently ranks in top 100 schools and top 25 public schools in the nation or state i cant remember... either way its pretty impressive

lots of politcal volunteer work as well as community service and played some basketball... also i have a lot of work experience where i held positions as a manager...

i am applying as a education major and spent a summer working as a camp counselor with the age group that i am applying for and also one of my essays talked about what that experience meant to me and how it changed it (written much more eliquently of course :)!!)

i applied in early october so i also dont know when i should expect to hear back... i also heard that a&m is notorious for putting out of staters on waitlist to ensure space for top 10%... how true is that?

i know all of this sounds great but i dont really know what it means in terms of being from out of state.... too bad being cute doesnt count for anything :(

thanks for taking the time to read this i know its a lot!!

(ps the one good thing about being a cali girl right now is that i have amazing tickets to the holiday bowl so i will be cheering loud... any special traditions (of course there are... its a&m :)!!) that i should do? GIG EM!!)

Those are pretty good stats, I'd give you around an 80% chance. The only thing holding you back is that verbal sat score. What you heard about the 10% rule is all true. The 10% rule accounts for the vast majority of A&M students thanks to a stupid law made by our legislators. It makes it harder for non top 10%ers and out of staters, but not impossible. I got in with a 1300/1600 (2100/2400), and a 3.6ish gpa, and a schedule similar to yours.

Oh, and I envy you getting to go to the holiday bowl. You probably wont know all the yells, but watch the aggie yell leaders, and when they say "hump it ags", lean forward and put your hands on your knees. After each yell, everyone does their "wildcat". Since you'll be a freshman, you put your hands straight up and yell AAAAAAAA. It sounds a little weird, but it doesnt seem odd at all when you're with 40,000 people who are doing it too.
