Legacy:
-Mom attended
-Uncle attended as 4 year all-american and then paid back scholarship after graduation (also wrote me a recommendation)
-4 Cousins attended and graduated

slight reach, but the legacy does factor in a little bit

What is the weighted GPA? For USC, average weighted is ~3.8 and average weighted is ~4.0. The legacy and the fact that you go to a competitve private could work in your favor. I would also say slight reach; it could come down to essays/other intangibles.

my weighted GPA is a 3.72 if you calculate it by my schools weighting standards which dont include 6 semesters worth of freshmen and sophomore years honors points. If you include those six honors points, my weighted GPA would be a 3.9

pleease chance me!

BTW, I found out about two of my Great Aunts who also attended, which would make a me a third generation legacy.

I'm pretty sure aunts/uncles/cousins don't factor into legacies. Only parents/grandparents/great-grandparents (?)

ya, it only asks for grand-parents, parents, and siblings, but my mom went too, so whatever, we shall see!

wait if i get in. can my cousins and parent use the legacy factor to get in usc?

I dont know how it would help your parent, but couldnt hurt!

im just curious, because students use their parents' legacy to get in a school. i was wondering if the coverse would work too.

No clue. Could make for an interesting hook though.

Cousins don't factor into legacy.

whoa, a few things i forgot to list that pertain to my chancing:
-Campus Ministry Team (12 grade): organizes food drives, money drives year round
-12 Cross-Country and Track Awards
-Approx. 250 Community Service Hours at Non-Profit Golf Shop that provides free clubs to junior golfers
-Went to a summer leadership conference for Student Council

haha, this seems desperate, but im just diggin' for everything ive got to give myself the best chance possible

Definitely you have a chance. I know a 2 strong legacies that did not get in for the fall semester, but were offered a spot the following spring.

flatxca - do you have any idea what the spring admit's GPA & test scores were? I am curious what kind of stats are borderline - spring admit.

I know one had about a 3.6 uw gpa and a 1200. She did not accept and went elsewhere. The other's stats I think were about the same and she did accept. Both are happy with their choices. They both are very strong legacies.

Thanks. That's good to know. I am an alum & my D has applied to USC for fall 2007 and has a 3.6 UW academic GPA, 4.6 W academic GPA, & 2030 SAT. The stats of your friends encourage me on my D's chances.

The average stats for spring admits are probably slightly lower than regular admits, but not by much.

OC Mom - I would think your daughter has a very good chance for fall. My son has applied also. (I have one graduating from SC in May.) I don't know if that gives him much of a legacy status, but every bit helps!

flatxca - Thanks for the encouragement. SC is by far her 1st choice and I must admit I want it for her as well. It would be so fun to have her there, but I don't know if she would be willing to wait for spring. My older D chose UCLA over SC and is having a GREAT experience. While I tried my best not to show it, initially I was disappointed.

I would think having a sibling at SC would give them similar to legacy status even if it isn't officially a legacy (I don't know what the actual definition is.)

SC is my son's first choice also. We are out of state, so waiting for the spring is not really much of an option. The one friend that did attend in the spring is from OC and went to a cc for the fall of her freshman year. She was happy with her path. Good luck to them both!
