Chances?

Male, Asian American
Public school

SAT:
2250/2400 (Updated) - Last shot in Janurary for an improved score.

GPA UW/W:
3.44/ 3.86 - Ouch I know...took the hardest possible classes all at the same time, killed my GPA. I guess you could say that I am the kid that got the B's and few A's without even studying. I have learned from my mistakes in HS and I will take my new attitude for school into me where I go to college.

With 2nd Trimester grades my GPA will be about 3.491/4.0. (All A's in 5 AP classes)

Rank:
22%

Courseload:
12 AP classes, many honors as well

ECs:
Piano 7 yrs
Drums 7 yrs
JV Tennis
Varisty Tennis
Tutoring students after school
Chess club
Ping Pong Club
Volunteering at my church doing fund raisers and other things (+200 hours)
Church youth group secretary (10th)
Church youth group Vice President(11th)
A few others as well, but im more focused on statistics right now.

As you can see, the majority of the EC's are not really school oriented, but instead related with church. I really hope this does not absolutely kill me, but hopefully I can add something in the essays that show my passion for my faith in God.

Personal hobbies/interests:
Play drums for my church praise and worship team which takes around 5 hours a week to prepare for. Besides music as being one of my major hobbies, I do enjoy computer programming and anything related to the computer.

Schools:

Johns Hopkins University
University of Washington
University of Oregon
University of Rochester
University of Wisconsin - Madison
University of Oregon
University of Southern California
University of Pittsburgh

Thanks for your input in advance.

Johns Hopkins University - Slight Reach
University of Washington - Match
University of Rochester - Match
University of Wisconsin - Madison - Match
University of Southern California - Match
University of Pittsburgh - Match

You COULD put in a few more reaches...

Pittsburgh as a match? really? Hmm... interesting - my guidance counselor said that I have a very good chance of getting in. (Probably more of a safe match if anything).

Opps, I put University of Oregon twice on that list...I have already been accepted so no need to do chances at that school.

I think I am satisfied with my list of colleges and I don't feel that I need to add more reaches. I feel USC and JHU are my biggest reaches and those are good enough for me. I hope to go to medical school so I am not too worried about where I go for undergraduate studies as long as they are in the top 60 in USNews ranking and have a strong pre-med program.

no, ur a guy USC will be a match for u and if u wrote great essays I would not be suprised at all if u got in. Unfortuantely outside ur GPA ur exc arent really amazing. Its either school or church, however, statistically you have a pretty decent chance at SC.

Do you mind explaining why being a guy allows USC to be a match for me? haha I don't understand that, do females outnumber males greatly at USC?

good shot everywhere... your below average gpa is compensated for by your very nice sat. u didnt apply anywhere which was a really big reach

Thanks, although a 2250 is not as good as I had hoped I will be trying for a 2350+ in Jan. with a little more study. Dec test was easier than I expected, but I thought I did much better than a 2250.

Anyway, why does being a male make USC a match for me? Is JHU out of my league? Rochester, in, or good chance I'm in?

Anyone else would like to chance/verify chances?

My recs should be pretty good. They will show a lot about my character as a person and I know JHU and UR look at character. Essays are decent, probably could have been better, but still very solid.
