Hello, sarahelizabeth. Please know that I am in no position to judge your "chances"....I am a parent of a Barnard student only! My personal assessment would be that, though your test scores look good, your grades and, perhaps, the level of courses you have had may not make you the most competitive applicant for a very competitive school such as Barnard. I am pretty sure they want to see you take the most challenging courses available to you, and if you have done that, then it's perhaps all good! That being said, I also believe the Barnard admissions people do a great job of assessing the whole student beyond the numbers. They are looking for who will best meet their needs in an incoming class from an increasingly competitive pool of applicants.

Just make sure you have applied to a good range of schools that fit you and you will be fine! All the best to you!

the pool of students at barnard very a lot in grades. I am a current student and I feel that barnard really really really looks at the person behind the numbers above all. regardless, your grades are be above that of the average matriculating student. I promise.

I definitely think they take the personal into account at any selective college because of the fact that everyone's grades are so high. Colleges, in general, are looking for people who will fit in on campus because they want you to matriculate. As long as your essays and recommendations are good, they have the potential to make up for your maybe not so good grades. Did you send recommendations from any of the teachers who taught one of the classes you struggled in? They could perhaps show a different side of you: the side that desperately wants to succeed but needs a little extra help before getting the grade she wants.

I think it is a match for you. A 3.6 unweighted is still a great GPA, along with your high class rank, and you have excellent ECs. Don't let people here overly discourage you...you could very well get in.
