Chances?

OK well I currently go to Georgia Tech. I came in as an aerospace engineering major but changed to managment of information systems which is considered business. I want to transfer to UNH becuase it is closer to home and would be in state tuition. Normally I dont think I would have a problem getting in but majoring in engineering here really hurt my GPA. It was a 2.66 but i got a 3.4 last semester which raised it to a 2.76. UNH says that they like to see a 2.8 for transfer students, but there is no way that a 2.8 at another college is the same as a 2.8 here. especially when I was doing engineering before. the 3.4 relects more of my ability in my new major. My SAT's were a 1200 (old ones) and my high school GPA was a 3.4. What do you think my chances of getting in as a transfer are?

unfortunately, they won't take into consideration the difficulty of your courses when determining whether you meet the minimum GPA requirement. If you don't have a 2.8, they may just throw your app out. However, since you are so close, you may call to see if they round up (but that would be uncommon).

well this is what it says exactly..."Although there is no specific GPA requirement, most admitted students have a cumulative grade-point average of 2.8 or above."

I misread that as "minimum required GPA." If that's just what they like to see, it doesn't mean they'll not consider your application.

However, on the most recent edition of USNews, it states that the minimum GPA for UNH is a 2.8, so you may want to call or email to be sure.

Also, the transfer acceptance rate was 64% for 2005.
