Be honest thanks

I don't know what type of school you come from but from looking at the ED results it seems almost mandatory to be in the top 10% of your class. I think you still could have a good chance though. I hope u get in. good luck

you're GPA is quite good, but your rank really needs to be top 10%, or even 5%...your ECs are a little typical, but you seem to do a lot, stay involved, and have dedication to what you do, which is what they look for...SAT looks solid...so, overall, your application looks good, but OOS is extremely difficult, and without any hooks, you arn't the top of the pile...i'd say UVA is a slight reach for you, but you do have a chance, and with great essays and recs, it might be enough to push you over the edge =) good luck

thanks ya the reason my rank is low is becasue I could not take honors freshman year becasue of middle school curriculum but every year since I have taken harder courses and done better

well, thats even better, because your GPA was great in 9th, and obviously as classes got harder, your GPA actully increased, which is a great trend! you're a great applicant, its just that OOS admission is tough and there are a ton of great applicants out there

thanks, anyone other current students or admitted students have an idea?

I was admitted ED in state this fall.

your SAT scores are better than mine were but are pretty much average for OOS. your GPA is also pretty typical. OOS rank is especialy important. If you aren't top 10% as an OOS applicant the odds are heavily stacked against you. If your school is highly regraded/has a good relationship with UVA that would certainly make a difference.

does it make any difference that my transcript will show that freshman year strength of curriculum basically disqualified me from the top 10% like i said before, but the other years are up there where they should be (i think)?

yes...this is like saying students at schools without APs are not penalized, but still looks great if they took honors courses instead...you couldnt take honors freshman year, but then when you could, you took many, and did well...if you're REALLY worried, have your GC send a short letter explaining the transistion from middle to high school and how it prevented you from taking honors frosh year
honestly, it was freshman year...who cares...you have an upwards trend, so dont sweat it

ya good point
